So Wednesday night, I'm playing JK when all of a sudden my computer shuts off violently and I hear... burning... coming from the case. I look closer and I see flames inside the power supply!

After a second or two, the flames went out.

Two days later, I bought a new PSU, hoping to god nothing else was damaged.

I installed it, flicked the little breaker on the back, turned on the computer, and to my amazement, it turned on! When it booted up, I noticed that for some reason my sound drivers were completely gone. Vanished. I had no sound. 20 seconds in google cured that and life's been good ever since.

I kept my old PSU. It should make an interesting conversation piece, as it's all... melty... inside.

Oh, btw. Go see Jackass 2. It's funny. :D

My PSU caught on fire once as well. It was my fault though. It was the second PC that I ever built, back in 99ish, and I cranked the voltage up on the back. I liked to the store and got a replacement the next day. Not as bad as the time I zapped myself while poking around the inside of my television while it was plugged in though.

How old was the PSU? We had an exploding Dell notebook at work a month or so back.

When my power supply died, it didn't go up in flames. It just EXPLODED. Scared the tar out of me when it happened. Thankfully no damage was caused to my computer. It exploded because apparently I had it set on the wrong voltage setting, causing the sucker to overheat.
