So, I've had the same cable ISP for the past four or five years. When I signed up the connection was 2mbps/512kbps. Shortly after it was bumped to 2.5 mbps. I just ran a speed test, and it was in the 9-10 mbps range. Upload speed is around 600 kbps. I didn't believe it, so I tried all the speed tests I could find, and they're all reporting 8-10 mbps. I don't know when the hell they upgraded the connection, but I'll take it.

Now, anyone know of something massive (and legal, and on a fast server) I can download to test it out?

Hmmm. I downloaded the Lineage 2 client from FilePlanet after we got FiOS... I got around 1Mbps in general, which was pretty damn fast in comparison to my earlier fileplanet experiences.

I started with a 10/10 connection. Later the company "upgraded" it to 2/2...

But like Obi-Wan said, the one who follows a fool is the real fool...

Do you mean 1 MBps (ie. one megabyte per second)? Because 1 Mbps is ~128 k/sec.

I recently discovered that I've gone from 3 Mb down to 4 Mb.

Still 256k up, though. :(

He means he went from 3mb download to 4mb download, but he's a lazy-*** and won't type the extra 4 characters.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.

Cable connection speeds can fluctuate a lot depending on how many houses your company serves off that one line, how many of those houses actually have cable internet, and how much bandwidth they are using. With everyone peaking, everyone on that connection should go the same speed.

I can get between 6 and 7 down in the early morning and middays. Only 3-4 in the evening and on weekends. The upload, however, is a pretty constant about 600k.
Wikissassi sucks.

My cable co. recently upgraded my entire region (but decided not to tell anyone).

Overnight I went from 3-4 mbps to 9-10 mbps. The cable co. no longer advertises a speed that they provide.

My down is 15% slower than everyone else who uses my ISP in my area, and my up is nearly 50% slower. Wtf.

People don't realize it but the cable co. monitors bandwidth per node. Nodes that are using above their average will get throttled. So make all your big downloads from your work's T3. :)

mines capped at 4Mb down. It's fast enough for me... equals about 500k/sec max. Most servers wont even let me download that fast anyway.

I have RR, used to have their premium package which was like 2 extra mbps for like $20 extra a month. Then we dropped that. Here's what I get currently:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 4821 kbps (602.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 362 kbps (45.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ , it's a pretty good speed tester.
