I kinda miss the wing commander franchise (though I havn't really played too much of it.. a few hours of privateer and privateer 2.. and a few hours of WC3)

Yeah. Wing Commander: Prophecy was Origin's last gasp of air before it really went under. It was supposed to be the first of a trilogy, but...well, we all see how that went.

I still maintain that Privateer >> Freelancer. Also, Wing Commander 3 had the coolest mission: if you had chosen to drown your sorrows (they gave you a choice mid-cutscene), then, when they scrambled fighters while you were drinking, the ship kept listing to one side and the other.

why, oh why couldn't have spielburg or james cameron gotten a stab at a wing commander movie....

I loved Wing Commander : Prophecy.

I definatly miss that franchise too.

The only flight sim I've ever liked except for Tie Fighter.

Privateer was an excellent game.

Excellent series. I played WC3 quite a bit and loved the nonlinearity of it. I got near the end but I always came to a dead end where I couldn't complete the mission objectives, it was weird.

Prophecy was great, too.

Privateer is awesome. I resurrected our old 66Mhz pentium a couple years ago just to play it. I actually spent the time to draw a map of all the systems by hand with the jump gates connecting them.

Yeah, Wing Commander Prophecy was awesome. One of these days I'm going to install win98 on my old Pentium II, just to run some of those classics. Also, Dark Forces, GTA 1, London, GTA 2.

You can probably find the Kilrathi Saga, which is WC1, 2, and 3 for Win9x & 2k machines on eBay somewhere.
