My project being the bass that I'm restoring some time in the near future.

I'm a little undeceided on what I'll use on repainting it however, so I'm going to take massassi's opinion!

Depends on what kind of music will be played on it, of course. If any kind of metal, then paint it black. If anything else, PURPLE.

Even if it's metal, paint it purple. Metal is too awesome to be deterred by the colour of the guitar.

Try something different. Kawasaki ninja green could be nice. or Galaxy silver type II. Maranello red? Dark Storm Blue? Red Candy Apple? Light blue pearl?

I like your style. It would look good depending on where or not it's plywood under that lacquer. Would look even better after I've added an arm contour and smoothed out the edges more.

if it's a cheap bass it's probably basswood or something. you could also go with two coats of varnish, a light one for the body and a dark one for the countour/binding.

and you made one mistake in your process. removing the fretboard.

The fretboard wasn't attached when I got it.

Infact when my friend gained it, it was held on with paper mache and blu-tack.

And the owner previously had it nailed on, the holes are now filled with woodfiller.

I'm planning to get a new fretboard.


So to conclude, what you see there is how I received it. :P

This guy is smart. You're going to have a hell of a time with that neck attaching a new fretboard to it. Not saying it can't be done, but the cost of replacing the neck / fretboard entirely is going to be miniscule unless you go crazy and buy Brazilian rosewood or something else exotic.
