Is there a JK3d mod?
2006-09-28, 9:21 PM #1
I know that Jedi Knight has a lot of mods, so I was wondering if there was a mod to turn the game 3d. I know it is a 3d game, but I mean 3d like with red-blue anaglyph glasses. I've seen it done to Quake II, and I thought that it was either Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast that was made with the quake II engine. Probibly outcast, because jk came out before q2. But if there is one for Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, or Jedi Academy, it would be nice to know how to get a hold of it.

JK is based on the SITH engine, JO/JA are based on the quake 3 engine. And.. I've never heard of such a mod.

I believe Q2 in 3d would be due to released source code. Jedi Outcast is based on Q3 engine, which is still under wraps. JK is a completely different engine. (sith) So to simply answer your question, no.

That's not a mod, that's a driver level change* made for 3D eyeglasses. Generally you have to buy them. But it probably doesn't work with JK.

Even then it'd be like watching a bunch of four sided ice cubes float across the screen. Ooooooh wowww... a 45 poly model in all of it's 45 sided glory!

The thing I saw was LinuX based code for Quake II, and it was a game mod for the red-blue glasses. It wasn't one of those crappy $40 seisure makers. Here's the link:

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to do with red/blue colourmaps and a quick cog...

Every frame render, switch between red and blue colourmaps, and move the camera slightly to the left or right.

That's been done for JO, indeed. Wasn't much of a hit though.

ATI's Shadermaster or whatever driver settings can do the red/blue 3d glasses effect for any D3D or OpenGL game (including JK). Worth checking out, I guess.

There also were stereoscopic drivers for nVidia cards. But they only work with older drivers.
At least I haven't seen recent ones and when I tried it out I had to downgrade a few versions.

How do you get ATI ShadeMaster, I can't find it anywhere.

Years ago with one friend of mine we tried JO with shutter glasses (very high-grade expensive ones borrowed from the university) using that nvidia stereo system. But honestly it wasn't really worth it, although it worked more or less.

The CS dept at MU had a projector hooked up to a computer that could be used with 3D glasses to make the images 3D.

You can do this with any projector or rear-projection TV that needs alignment, I believe.

I swore I saw on a old JK2 site about this.

JK2files as well as Lucasfiles had a review of them up for about 4 months, back in JO's glory days (which pretty much were those 4 months), so that's no wonder.
