The next gen revolution is just around the corner. We've all seen what Microsofts 'Jump the Gun' console can do, and how many break.....
With the holidays fast approaching, and the manufacturers struggling to whip thier already triple over-timed workers at a rate to keep up with production, we see what its going to come down to.
From what I see so far the Xbox 360, currently priced at 300USD for the base model, and 400USD for the premium system, isn't what people (or at least I) expected. It sports some decent games, and I have to say I will never grow tired of zombie bashing in Dead Rising. However, can it keep up its already bloated pricing? What with the risks of random hardware failures and poor XBOX game ports? (by that I mean playing the old xbox games) I hope it drops its price to compete for the holidays considering the demand won't be as high for the second rate system anymore. (Dreamcast flashbacks)
Then there is the Nintendo Wii (Formerly known as Revolution) Which sports a number of nice features, including the online downloadability of any old nintendo game (nes through n64 i believe) and the ability to play gamecube. (which is good to me because I thought gamecube sucked, but I liked a couple games) This system seems to have promise. The controller system looks to be something of an admirable adjustment to the gaming world, especially for such games as Zelda and Metroid. Also the typical FPS game will benefit from aiming with that controller. All this for only ~250USD is a GREAT deal. I definately plan to get one of these joyboxes myself.
Last, but definately not least, is the much anticipated PS3. What wasn't much anticipated however is the rediculous price tag. Projected 600USD shelf price is not something that even the great PS3 should bear. The games no doubt look breath taking, and Sony has never let me down as far as ANY of its electronics go. (monitor, speakers, disc drive, PS2, ect...) Aside from that, this console really doesn't bring much expected to the table besides titles. Blu-ray sure... I just havent hopped on that band-wagon yet. It's just the next generation of CD formatting, wont be long til we get BR-R and BR-RW drives for 200 bucks, and then a year later the same drive from newegg for 40 bucks.
So it boils down the the almighty question.... which, if any of these, have you or will you be choosing? Me? Probably in the order of Wii, 360, PS3... spaced over the period of a whole year.
