What the Hell is up with DVD prices?

I want to get X-Men 3 and Thank You For Smoking on DVD, when I saw that after this week Best Buy wants $40 for X-Men 3 and $30 for Thank You For Smoking.

Jesus Christ, what the Hell are they smoking?

It should be noted that X-Men 3 is $1 less than Stargate Season 9 boxset.

I had a blog. It sucked.

You sure that's not Blu-Ray or HD-DVD prices?

We went over that in the chat, he's certain they're DVD prices.

They both say "list price", they never sell for "list price"

Look at "our price"

Their one-week sale prices are $20 and $25, respectively. Then they go up from there.

It's ridiculous.

They don't want that much. That's like saying the MSRP of a 6800GT is still 300 dollars so you're gonna pay 300 dollars. In reality, you're gonna pay a lot less (more like 150).

Dollars to donuts their "1-week sale" price never goes, or when it does they go down to the same price.

I've never seen a DVD price above that, and there's absolutely no reason to put it so high now when that kind of money could buy you a blu-ray or HD-DVD copy.

Until you can honestly prove they're charging more than normal prices, what's the big ****in deal?

New releases are always $14.99 at my local Best Buy, Circuit City or Walmart. So I'm not sure what's up with that...

Are you sure? That certainly just seems like the normal price. Every single item on the website has "Our Price" listed.

Yeah, to me it seems like that's the official price, I didn't see any sales pitches.

I'm just used to, as Cloud said, new-release prices being in the range of $13-$18. This seems rather high.

Re: X3 He's looking at the list price for the version with the 96 page book which they also plainly state they sell for $25. The version without the book is listed on Best Buy's site for $15. Didn't care enough to check out the other movie. List prices for everything are typically more than they sell for.

I buy all of my DVDs from Amazon or ebay....for ~$5-7 each (plus shipping), I don't care if it's "previously viewed".

It's just a plot. If they get enough money in DVD sells they might make a sequal. Or better, a remake! :psyduck:

Usually on the first day you can get it for a really good price. When V for Vendetta first came out over here, it was $30. I got it on sale for $19.99 :psyduck:
My blawgh.
