Anyone know what it is? My guess would be the hard drive or something

Sounds like the bearings of a fan are going to ****. Check CPU fan. If not that, check PSU fans.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

What would I be looking for on the fans?

Also, if I set the computer horizontally it doesnt make the sound. The only fan I could find that seemed like it might be it is the one on the graphics card. I span it by hand and if I put a tiny bit of pressure it made the noise.

Yeah I probably should have clarified that. By check I mean listen. If possible try to learn where that sound comes from. Listen to see if it's a CPU fan going bad. If it's not that, listen for the PSU fans.

Yeah, its looking like its the Graphic cards fan. Whenever I turn of the comp it quits spinning at the same time the noise stops. Im gonna pop it out and take a look.

You know, I've got that noise now and then since late 2004 or so. Probably when I got my GF6600...

That's typically too sharp a sound for bearings. It sounds like loose cabling is being nicked by the CPU or GPU fan.

Found out what was wrong. Took out the card and looked at its fan. It managed to get lint wrapped around some of the blades, making the fan not spin right. Thanks for the help guys :)

Funny thing FastGamerr, I've got the same card.

My hard drive did that too, it was pretending to be a helicopter. But then threw it away and the noise stopped. No big loss really, only 120gb of porn and my san andreas savegames were lost. But it was worth it, watching the hd drop from 7th floor to the street.
