Do you have the Windows default desktop button? I do, and it's one of the most useful things I ever remember having on my computer. I don't know how I ever survived, just minimizing each window by hand. This is just so much faster.
I had a blog. It sucked.

WIN+M works too.

windows+m is minimize-all, whereas windows+d is show desktop. The difference is that pressing windows+d a second time restores everything.

Meta+D all the way.

Also, some window classes can't be minimized.

Is there a list of all the cool key combinations they have for windows for this kind of thing? I know more MAC ones than windows ones because of TV >_>

I found it useless. Of course, I also have a habit of closing windows as I navigate to a directory, and keeping my workspace tidy in general so I can see everything at once.

Now if I could just get those habits to transfer to real life physical habits, I'd be all set.

No, because I'm using a PowerBook on OSX.

I don't have anything important on the desktop, but if I did, I can just press ctrl+alt+left and my cube will rotate to a clean desktop.

I don't have quick launch turned on.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Turn on expose, set one of the corners to Desktop.

Ditto. Who would had thought that windows key had more use then just open the start menu?

I have show desktop and a Firefox launch in my quicklaunch. At one time I had a PowerShell shortcut but not at this moment.

Aye. Especially since I never use it to open the start menu...

I have only used it for win+E, and that I do every day, oft more than once.

Alt+Space+M = GOD.

Also I'm doing the exposé thing with my bottom right for desktop, bottom left for apps.

I never use Win+D cause it works on both monitors. If it only, say, showed the "actual desktop" on my primary monitor, then I'd use it.

Did you mean Alt+Space+N? Cause M just moves the window, not minimize it.
2006-10-08, 6:21 AM #23
No I mean move - because I keep my taskbar at the top of the screen and some windows apps (Office for instance) often creates instances with the bar for moving off the top of my screen and it's the only way to rescue them!

Pure awesome.

Doesn't F11 do basically the same thing as show desktop?
.
2006-10-08, 6:41 AM #25
Yeah, but you can give it a hot corner to execute the F11 command without using the keyboard.

The attached picture shows what WIN+M does for me.

Although my "Win"-key has a small Tux on it.

Which is almost as bad as the wavey menus. Waiting 10 seconds for a menu to wave in was a bit too much for me.

What could you possibly use any of this for besides stealth-wanking?
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
2006-10-08, 4:57 PM #32
I use litestep (shush) so I don't have a quicklaunch readily available, but I use switch desktop to the same effect. And I do use show desktop extensively on my laptop. So, yes.

I dunno, maybe accessing a desktop shortcut you can't see because of all the open windows in the way?

Foo. :P
