Windows XP Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Programs?

My sister has a computer running XP and she wants to know what is good for detecting and clearing out spyware and viruses. Any recommendations? Anything that's free that will do the job?

Avast! anti-virus is free and works better than anything else that you usually pay for.

Ad-Aware and Spybot combined are a force to be reckoned with for spyware.

I use AVG for virus scanning and spybot search and destroy + adaware for spyware.

All of which are free.

I second that.

AVG sucks wang. If you NEED a free scanner, use housecall.trendmicro.com, trendmicro's free online scanner. I'd use it through IE. It works wonders, and, despite being an online scanner, is much much better than AVG in my past experiences.

Spybot and Adaware other than that.

I'd suggest buying PC-Cillin for XP if you want the best anti-virus solution, though.

I think the world would only end when you got a username that didn't suck so bad.

Recommended Antivirus: AVG

Recommended Anti-Malware: Windows Defender, with Ad-Aware as a backup.
