Got a new motorcycle

Well, I replaced my ninja with this:

More info here:

I got a new 2006 model (as opposed to a used one) - the page is about the 2007s but there were none available in this area and they only got minor updates (new colors, different type of tires).

Sold it already.

Whoa, kickass.

I'm a Triumph kind of person myself, but I really like those Buells (Harley Davidson's sportbikes). I seriously considered the Ulysses model, but settled on the Triumph Scrambler I have now. If the Buell were a little less expensive, I might have one right now.

Didn't your father get into a motorcycle accident a few years ago? I thougth you had a beef with bikes.

Yeah, he got in a really bad accident in 2000. (Damn this site has been around a long time.) I don't have any problem with bikes, on the contrary, I mostly enjoy my daily commute (I ride to the ferry, take the ferry to Seattle, then ride from the dock to my work).

Yeah, they are more expensive than comparables. I love the Speed Triple, but it's heavier and has a chain drive. After messing with the chain on the ninja every 400 miles for the 9k miles I drove it, I really, really didn't want another chain-drive bike.

I got the bike for $9200 + tax & licensing. The MSRP is $10,500, but it was an 06 (still new though) so they gave me a break. I also purchased the $1500 5-year extended warranty. I think the warranty is so expensive because most people end up using it a lot :( Jap bikes are like $500 for the same thing, I think.

We'll see how it goes. It's really damn fast compared to the 250 and 650 I have been riding.

My father owns a 1981 Honda CB900 Custom (it's older than me :o ), but it still runs like a champ. It's a transmission drive, 4 cyl, true 4 ex, with an additional gearbox for high gear. It's old, but it's great. It's the bike I learned to ride on (kinda dumb, learning to ride on a 900). I tend to shy away from Jap bikes, but I've always liked Honda.

I wish my Scrambler was transmission drive. I haven't had any problems with the chain yet, but it's bound to happen sooner or later.

I've never really been a fan of sportbikes, nor a fan of cruiser style bikes (HDs, etc). I don't like plastic, and I don't like a lot of noise or leather. I just don't like the whole 'cruiser' attitude, really. I really don't like those big plastic ferrings they have on most sportbikes. I prefer a 'naked' sport bike, or a 'standard' bike. The Honda 919 is nice. I'm somewhat tall, and leaning forward onto the handlebars for too long is no good for my wrists. The Buells are pretty, with a good balance of sporty and classy look, and have a lot of punch. Now I'm jealous.

I looked closely at the 919, I really like the looks of that bike. I don't like the chain drive though. I don't know if it has fuel injection, either (the Buells do). I also looked at the Yamaha FZ1, another great looking bike with a chain drive (bleck).

I don't really like cruisers either. I like sport bikes but I ride so much and I have back pain so I need something a little more upright. I really like the half-fairing on the XB12R but I just don't fit on the bike (that's the Buell Firebolt).
