I'm sure they're only acting in the interests of their consumers.

Wait wait.

I thought being for net neutrality meant things would stay as they are?

This is an OUTRAGE!

We PAY for services RENDERED.

HOW DARE THEY?!

No, Rob. Being "for" means that you believe the net should stay the same no matter what provider you're using. Being against means that you're against the consumer's freedom.

The internet is free (Not money), and available to all: Giving this power to big companies is a form of censorship. It'd severely hinder small websites, as you may or may not have to pay deals to providers in order for your site to even be viewable.

And some people say "THAT won't happen. They'll just stop you from going to competitor's websites." Maybe at first, but we all know what people with power DO.

This bull**** doesn't faze me. If whores start this crap on the Internet, we'll flock to other networks or build our own Internet, free of whores. The Internet will become lame and everyone will flock to the new Internet.

Google's been buying dark fiber in (and this part I can't confirm) anticipation of forming their own network should telecomm & cable companies have their way.

Are you sure it isn't for Google ISP? :p
2006-10-11, 9:24 AM #19
I can't confirm google's intentions, but I can state that I've heard the same thing, and add that, from what I hear, they've been developing mobile trailors that could easily handle large scale (terabyte or more) transactions, in addition to the large quantities of fiber purchased.
