Oh God It Couldn't Have Been A Plane It Must Have Been A Missile Designed By The Pentagon That Used A Plane Engine!

Weird.

I highly doubt this was terrorism. The dude was lucky if he killed more than ten people. It could have been some teenager trying to go out in a blaze of glory or something, or an accident.

Why cant things like submarines crash into building? Where is the originality in it always having to be planes?
My blawgh.

Plus, who really cares? So a few people died in a plane accident. What's everyone's obsession with aircraft accidents, and I mean even before 9/11. Guess how many people died in auto accidents today? About 5,000X more than in this

Well... What if there were SNAKES on that plane, huh? Did you ever think of THAT possibility? :ninja:

But in all honesty, this really isn't much of a big deal. 9/11 wasn't the first time planes slammed into buildings, it was just the first (and 2 of 3 times?) that such an incident was intentional.

It's really only headline news because news-sites rank stories by the number of hits, and they're being swarmed by a public worried that we're going to "see another 9/11."

I agree. What about the genocide in Darfur?

New York Yankees manager Joe Torre says the plane that crashed into a building in Manhattan is registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle.

Uh oh

And he is a registered pilot. Don't know much more that that, however.

Most of you disgust me. A plane striking a building and resulting in the loss of life is a significant event.

Well, they did lose to Detroit. That takes a special kind of suck.

No, it's not. The only reason it's a big deal is because people are attracted to the novelty. Way more people die in car accidents every day. That's not significant.
2006-10-11, 3:58 PM #22
That doesn't mean it isn't significant.

Yeah, see, the "joke", is that his team lost their playoff, so he flew a plane into a building because he was "emo". It's not funny, at all.

4 people died. 15 or so were injured, some severely. It could have been a whole lot worse than it was. It happened in New York. It was another plane crashing into a building.

Sure it had no direct effect on me, but something doesn't have to affect me personally to be significant. It would be selfish to think that way.

I never said the world is insensitive. I asked a question.

Out of 6,000,000,000 people, four is not a significant number. Sure, it's sad, and a bunch of other bad things, but I would hesitate to call it significant. We're not saying that it isn't a bad thing, just that it's not really an event that is particularly influential on world affairs. I mean, shoot my problems are insignificant compared to the world, but that doesn't mean that they aren't bad things.

This isn't the first airplane accident in NYC since 9/11...

But how many of the planes crashed into BUILDINGS?

With people from TV in them?

Wow, you don't sound like the average teenager at all. "Who cares, it's only one guy dead". Who cares indeed.

Do more people in Africa starve every day than would die in a month should this happen everyday in New York? Yes. Does that make this event any less sad? No.

All tragedies are on the same scale, because they are all tragic.

Right, our inclination to mourn things isn't meant to be proportional to how tragic they are :\

What is your issue Yoshi? This is the root of all the flame wars you start. You stupidly, almost intentionally misread a persons post, and flame them based on your twisted conception of what you think they said. If you had given my post an even cursory glance you would have realized that I was saying that it is sad, but that "significant" is simply the wrong word for the situation. It not like it would take miraculous intuitive powers, just read the stupid post!

Oh I got that much, and it IS significant. Maybe not to you, but it is.

And herein lies the root of all flamewars you participate in--I have no issue except that, to me, this is significant, and you're debasing all that by saying "It's not significant, no matter what you think", however, you don't account for the irrationality of the human mind. Do I know it shouldn't be sad? Do I know that more people die of more inane things than this every day? Yes. Does it matter to me? No.

Funny that the athiest should be telling this to the (in denial) christian.
