Medieval 2: Total War Demo
2006-10-13, 7:33 PM #1
I'm shocked that the release of the demo was kept such a secret. I'm sure a lot of massassians would like to know that the demo for Medieval 2: Total War is out.

I'm very eager to see how this game runs on my computer (downloading now).

Wow. I was really unimpressed with the two battles that came in the demo.

Maybe it is because I'm really tired, but Agincourt felt like there was -no- strategy or thought involved at all. It was just some men standing behind spikes shooting arrows.

I'm really excited about the game, and the graphics are way nice, but the gameplay in the demo really left me unimpressed. My favorite part was actually the tutorial...

I also mainly like the Total War series for the campaign mode, which from the movie in the demo looks really awesome.

My processor doesn't have SSE2.

This looks like they used the same exact engine and art as they did for Rome: Total War. Just new units

Are you serious? The graphics are way better. Same engine, probably, though, you're right about that...maybe upgraded some. Anyway, i forget where i was going with this. Oh yeah, this is to Rome what Medieval was to shogun, i think. More of the same goodness with whipped cream on top. And maybe a cherry, I haven't played it yet.

I'll be happier when they do a WWI era game with trench warfare.

Are there ANY good WWI games?

And to derail: What was that RTS that took you through the ages of warfare from like Civil War up to 2050 or something like that, and it really focused on the weaponry and whatnot? It's not out yet I believe.
I had a blog. It sucked.

A WWI game might be a bit dull:

1) Go over the top
2) Get mown down my machine gun fire
3) Respawn in trench
4) Get shredded by shrapnel from artillery fire
5) Re-respawn in trench
6) Die from inhaling toxic gas
7) Re-re-respawn in trench
8) Go over the top
9) Get injured by falling coins/barbs/nails from recon plane
10) Spend hours in no man's land trying not to bleed to death whilst trying to look dead to the enemy yet catch a friendly soldier's eye in a vain attempt to get rescued at nightfall.

That said, I bet someone will manage to make a great WW1 game at some point. Maybe it'd have to be a RTS where you're a general sipping gin whilst sending thousands to the slaughter.

Weapons from WWI aren't that interesting to an average FPS fan with a short attention span.

Empire Earth?
2006-10-14, 11:22 AM #15
Well, maybe it was an FPS because I remember a huge love of it starting on Massassi, and Empire Earth doesn't sound like it.

The MP was supposed to be like you could put a bunch of Navy SEALs in a pit and have WWI guys try to kill them was one example. I remember it was supposed to be veyr historically accurate in the weaponry.

Wow. I have never heard of a game like that -ever-.

A mate of mine at Uni is actually dating one of the artists at Creative Assembly who has been working on this and my did he have a few things to say about the game and how Sega have handled its development. When I found out who he was and who he worked for I badgered my mate to let me met him I chatted to him for about an hour or so about the game and the game industry in general....none of it good btw in relation to the game.

As for all of you wondering about the game engine it's based off Rome Total war's engine just updated to produce better graphics and such, that part of the development went fine and the engine should work perfectly.

It's the AI that is the problem....

Basically sega handed it over to the Australian team of creative and they thought they could do a much better job than the UK team who wrote Rome's and wrote it all up from scratch, problem was, when it got sent back to the UK to get put together with the rest of the game and for testing....it didn't work the way it should have.

Supposedly in the last couple of months the UK office of creative have been pushing to 1) fix the problems and 2) get sega to push back the release date so that they had enough time to get the problems fixed...

Sega said No to pushing back the release date and from what he was telling me the A.I. in the game sucks in comparison to the previous titles...the UK guys reckon the game will still sell well because of the name but will ruin the franchise in the long term because of what people think of the game.

Personally I've only played the demo of Rome and that was it, I'm not the greatest of fans of this particular game type, but it won't surprise me if the reviews come out bad for this game because of what I've been told.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.

That's Alliance: The Silent War . Check the gameplay videos under the TV tab to the right.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

DUDE. Thank you so much! I've always wanted to look more into this game.

I don't think anything will come close to being as awesome as Rome:Total War. Unless they release a Rome:Total War that lets you play multiplayer with the conquest map.

JLee is right. I just threw up the first link I found. (At first I wasn't even going to include a link.)

Shouldn't this be Medieval : Total War : 2? How did that 2 get stuck in the middle of the game's name?
Wikissassi sucks.
2006-10-15, 6:06 PM #26
"Total War" is sort of a weird franchise thing that they have, it's more like the "Star Wars" in star wars game names, it just goes at the end. So really it's more like Total War: Rome, Total War: Medieval, Total War: Medieval 2. They just changed around the order.
