So you recommend that one watches the movie before reading the book?
2006-10-30, 1:50 PM #17
yes.

if you watch the movie then read the book, only then can you appreciate the awesomeness of both.

I'll trust your opinion. I actually just checked out The Shing from the library, so I'll wait for now.

I just the other day watched The Shining on Cinemundo, dubbed in Spanish.

"Aqui estaaaaaa JOHNNY!" was hilarious.
The Mothman Prophecies
The Descent
Maybe it's just been a long time since I've seen it, but I'd hardly classify The Mothman Prophecies as horror. And just because The Descent didn't suck *** hardly makes it worth mentioning here. Guess what? Alien did it better, damn near thirty years ago.
2006-10-30, 10:03 PM #25
Mothman Prophecies was just damn creepy and The Descent was the best horror movie made in the past decade.
The Descent was the best horror movie made in the past decade.
Well considering every horror movie from the last decade you've heard of was either an attempt to revive the 'slasher' genre or a bastardization of a decent movie from the seventies and eighties, it's no wonder you feel that way. I don't mean to be hostile, and I'm far from a horror aficionado, but please, watch some of the suggested titles.

Victor, you need to realize that rating movies is wholly subjective; some person may think a film is the best film of all time and someone could hate it. So best horror film of the last decade? Maybe to you, but not to everyone.

That said, if you can suspend your disbelief a bit, The Descent is one amazing movie. One of the few movies I've seen that actually had me tense and scared and yelping "Holy ****ing ****!"

My favorites are Zac Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, Aliens, and Silent Hill. And I'm not very much of a horror movie fan.

There's only one problem with calling the descent the best horror movie in the past decade... It wasn't scary. It was a pretty sweet movie, but it didn't scare me at all.

And the Saw series is highly overrated... Oh and also not scary.

I saw about 20 minute of SAW II, it was kinda trashy...
2006-10-31, 6:52 AM #31
There are only two films that have ever scared me.

IT (I watched it when I was 8).
What Lies Beneath (cause bathtub stuff is damned creepy)

I'm going to go with Event Horizon because it truely freaked me out.
nope.
2006-10-31, 11:10 AM #34
Event Horizon is brilliant. It helped that it was the first film I ever watched in surround sound on DVD. Also same goes for Alien.
2006-10-31, 11:28 AM #35
I first saw it when I was about 11. Sam Neill haunted my dreams for a short time after.
nope.
2006-10-31, 12:07 PM #36
It's really sad that the director of Event Horizon went on to make cinematic gems like Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and AVP.

He got off to such a good start.

Event Horizon, the part where they turn all the lights on and there were bodies splattered all over the walls.

Damn.

I think the part where the one guy dug his own eyes out was especially creepy.
2006-10-31, 1:59 PM #38
I thought the bit where Jason Isaacs get sliced open was one of the worst bits myself.

Oh, and coolest moment goes to when the artificial gravity gets turned on and the frozen body shatters.
nope.
2006-10-31, 2:34 PM #39
I didn't realise he went on to do such crap! What a waste. :(

Ah well, I can still watch my DVD and smile (and crap my pants)
2006-10-31, 3:58 PM #40
What Lies Beneath is good. :)
