Mission Viejo, what a strange, and yet insanely cool name for a town.

With a name like Brick, it doesn't sound like a safe place...

Obviously CNN is biased; there are no Canadian cities on there.

I hope you're joking for several reasons.

Oakland is no. 8 on the list of most dangerous cities in the US.

What about Camden, NJ? I thought it was the historical murder capital?

Brick, New Jersey? God, no wonder it's the safest city, it's freaking called Brick.

It's also packed to the brim with McMansions and soccer moms.

RTFA, Camden is mentioned several times, and there is an excerpt from an interview with its mayor.

Did they have a link to the full list somewhere? Would like to see where my hometown fits in.

As for the #1 worst city... I've only passed through St. Louis while traveling on the Greyhound. My 3 hour layover there was easily the most surreal experience on the entire trip.

Their bus station is housed in the hollowed out interior of an old bank, and features a single, gigantic room with massive stone pillars, gilded cornices, and huge chandeliers and brass lighting fixtures which birds fly about and nest in.

I was there at 5AM, sharing part of my stale bagel with a bouncy little angelic sparrow, while the sunrise came in through the fifteen foot tall windows on the Eastern wall, filling the room with a soft, golden light. Suddenly, two security guards tackle a man who was running away from them, knocking over the bench three feet away from me in the process. I hadn't slept in 23 hours and was planning to on the next bus. I just sat there, disinterestedly watching the fight, the sparrow having flown already.

Between the devils, the angels, and the beautiful architecture, I imagine it was like being in purgatory.

Outside, St. Louis was gritty, grey, and industrial. Layers of graffiti overlap below the underpasses, in layers going back as far as the invention of spray paint. It reminded me of Gotham.

Wish I had a camera on that trip, though it was probably safer not having it.

I can believe Irvine. Both 5 and 405 move at a maximum speed of 15 MPH at any given point in the day. So you would never get in a serious accident.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Ouch! Denver is at #303, which ironically enough is the area code.

I did read the FA, but I'm talking about #1, baby. Although I am not from the area, I have a number of dear friends who are from South Jersey (some even born in Camden hospitals!), and would be very disappointed to hear their blessed little city has slipped from its laurels. God willing, it may stay #1 for gross murder rate and number of parking lots filled with tires.

Not in the afternoon.

that's only like 6:30 AM - 10:00 AM, and/or 3PM to 6 PM. In between, (and, of course, late @ night) it's actually pretty fast.

I know. I can pull 90 easy sometimes in Irvine. Just subtilly opining about SoCal's freeways.

Vote for 1A and maybe 1B!

Okay, I've got to ask how they managed to leave every city in Illinois off the list.
