...but I'm having a problem. I can't find it within myself to play it in 640x480(or whatever it is). It just seems way too restrictive. Is there any mod, update, or anything out there that allows you to play it in 800x600 or greater?

You could try this, I've heard people say it works, though I've never tried it myself.

There are only 2 possibilities for this to happen:

1. Two versions of every sprite, so that they have the right size to fit each resolution. Sprites are not really scalable with decent quality (at least, making larger).
2. Expand the entire field of vision (you see more of the world at once). This is how Diablo II pulls it off, but in starcraft, that would be a major advantage over others without it.

There is another stupidly bad option which the link above would do, is to just enlarge everything. If you do that, you'd be switchin back to 640x480 very quickly. It's ugly as heck.

For some reason that doesn't bother me at all in Starcraft. The horrible resolution in games like Dark Forces, however, render them virtually unplayable to me.

I just tried it... theres no option of setting the resolution in that program. If starcraft used 3dfx Glide you could easily use a glide wrapper like DGVoodoo to change the resolution. Starcraft uses directx as far as i know.
