Valve and STEAM suck

I'm not talking about Steam authentication AT ALL. I'm talking about the games themselves no longer being offered for download once Valve goes out of business, so you should back up the games themselves. I've made that clear 4 times now.

One of the main features of STEAM is that you don't need to buy anything from a physical store. Simply buy the game online and you have it. If you want a backup, just right-click on the game in question and choose "Backup game files...". You get a handy little wizard to choose what to back up and where. If you complain because going to the store to buy a game is annoying, thats because it is completely redundant.

I have problems with Steam.

I bought HL2 in a store because I knew that my computer has all sorts of issues and wouldn't be able to use Steam well. Turns out that I can't play HL2 at all now because Steam won't work on the gaming computer. I've tried to figure out why it doesn't work to no avail. The diagnostics on the Steam website certainly didn't help. My brother was able to create an account, but we can't log on to the account at all. I can't get to the offline mode because I can't log in the first time. So now I can't play a game that I bought in a store because I can't log on to an online service that isn't going to do anything for me.

**** Steam.

I don't know if this helps, or if you even care anymore, but I had a similar problem with not being able to log in (after successfully making an account), and it turned out that the Nvidia firewall on my new gaming computer was blocking Steam.

*shrug* maybe that helps.

I know what youre saying. You're just being silly.

#1 If you have the game on your computer its easy enough to back up the files (like Bobbert said)

#2 If they went out of business and you didnt have the files on your hard drive, I assume there would be a window of time where you could re download your files before they turned the servers off completely.

So if you're so adamant about being paranoid that the servers wont retain your files, download them now while you still can and back them up for yourself.

Clear enough?

...that's what I'm saying. Steam has an option to backup the game files for you. Like, onto disk. So you can burn them. Or do whatever.

And I do agree with Jon`C in principle, but I haven't had any problems yet. As far as keygens hitting real CD-keys, you'd think Valve would use long enough keys to make that extremely unlikely. As in extremely unlikely even for bored 13 year old kids that do nothing but try generated keys all day long.

Ironically I might buy X³: Reunion through Steam since it will have the StarForce crap that the retail DVD has. Steam's copy protection is infinitely less invasive than SF.

I never had any experience with Steam because my brother was the one who bought Half Life 2, and therefore was the person who set the whole thing up. The only problem he seemed to run into was the long updating/decrypting/whatever process before he got to play.
