So I was thinking about old television that I miss, and I was reminded of "The Screen Savers." I don't think there's ever been, or will ever be such a variety show that actually informs and entertains consumers instead of just trying to sell them things. I learned a majority of what I know through watching Call for Help and The Screen Savers. My parents started watching the shows. MY PARENTS STARTED WATCHING THE SHOWS. We saved money on everything computer through ZDTV/TechTV. They let me make a PC because of ZDTV. It was FREE education for christ's sake, and I and lots of other people ate it up. I used to leave TechTV on all day and just have it on in the background of whatever I was doing. We'd have it on in the livingroom when we weren't watching TV. It was just a kind of information channel that did nothing but good things for me and my family.
So now that The Screensavers is no more, I decided to go watch a few youtube videos, trying to relive my younger days. Then I found a 2 part interview with Leo Laporte by some french podcasting company.
Part 1 Part 2
These are very very informative videos, and a must read for anyone who was a big fan of ZD/TechTV's golden years.
Apparently twit.tv (The show that, last I heard, was just a random once in a while thing done by the former Screensaver's cast) has REALLY hit it big recently. 50,000 listeners? Corporate sponsership? The Screensavers seems like it has found a new niche market, and it is flourishing. I really think I'm going to start to get into podcasting by downloading the latest TWiT.
