Let's build forts!

Anything to avoid doing homework, you know. 50 feet of coaxial cable, my bedsheets, and some other items such as a CRT monitor and LED Christmas lights for lighting, and voila, we have ourselves a fort:

I watched Battlestar Galactica in here earlier; it was fun.

*standing ovation*

I do stupid crap to avoid homework too. Last night I soldered a usb-xbox controller cable that I don't even need.

I did that ALL the time when I was a little kid.

Needs a "No girls" sign.
Or for the more mature a "No fat chicks" sign.

Because you're obviously the best at giving advice to the more mature of us.

I loved making forts and stuff as a kid. Don't have the needed stuff at the moment, but if I ever make one I'll take pics >_>

Easiest fort evar!

Step 1: Close Door.

Step 2: Turn Off Lights.

Step 3: Add Atmosphere.

Step 4: Profit!

The fun comes from the difficulty/awesomeness of building it.
2006-11-12, 8:40 PM #15
My favorite part had to be the enclosed feeling.

Weird I know.

My friend and I made a fort out of his wierd couch a while ago. It was the perfect make-out cave. In fact, he was going to use it for that. (But those plans got ruined)

I agree. I'm already drawing up plans for the next iteration; it's going to have a rigid roof support structure and a door along with all the amenities of the current fort. ooooh and my mini-fridge would fit nicely in there.

A mini-fridge AND a computer; if it had a bathroom I'd never have to leave!

No, because smocc didn't feel right with it, as much as the other guy wanted to.

I'm building a fort tomorrow

You think thats good? My cousin and I, when we were about 10, built a fort with my grandma's furnature cusions, a coffee table, two chairs, and 3 sheets. We both had a place to lay, had a TV, a radio, and the best part, a FULLY FUNCTIONAL cushion 'duct' if you will, that routed AC from the vent into the fort. MMM innovation.

No, because something else came up that day and then when she did come over there were a bunch of people there.

Back when me and my brother were kids we also built these. Then one time our mom decided to help us, and the fort ended up filling almost all of one room, and it was practically a small enclosed labyrinth made of numerous pieces of various furniture items, blankets, sheets, cardboard... It had only one exist, numerous corridors, dead-ends... The only thing missing was a second story due to issues of structural integrity and safety (that was probably the price of having your mom involved in the process. After all, safety is not a word belonging to a kid's vocabulary...)

The only forts I was ever bothered about buliding as a kid were made from bits of wood, metal sheets, trees and barb-wire if we could find it. They usually only lasted a few days as the older kids always nicked the wood for fires. Pity there was no razor wire around, it might have lasted longer then ;)
Mind you, we got enough cuts ourselfs with the barb-wire.

Where the hell did you live?
2006-11-13, 11:12 AM #29
Bad news: the fort collapsed last night while I was sleeping in it due to me accidentally knocking out a support.

Good news: now I can build version 2!

Not seriously; I got two broken ribs from the impact when the bedsheet fell on me but that's it other than minor bumps and scrapes.

Not that I'm coming to get you or anything, but some nights I play hockey there.

Forts were fun. We used to take the cushions and pillows off the couches and set them up into a fort. Large boxes were also a good find. Nothing spectacular, but fun nonetheless.
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?
2006-11-13, 2:08 PM #39
Yeah, I also used sofa cushions. Then we'd jump on top of it, because it was nothing but padding. Of course, missing the cushion and hitting the metal support bar with your head isn't fun...

Oh yeah? Well one time, me and my friend accross the street went to some house that was being renovated and we made a fort out of cinder blocks and wire mesh. And we made a fence around it with orange "fence material" and planks with rusty nails sticking out of them. It was cool for the couple of minutes it lasted.
