Well, at least for the next 6-12, maybe 18 months. No pixel shader 3.0 support on the X800 XT, so who knows how it will run on next-next-gen games (post D3 & HL2). Why ATI did that is still beyond me.

nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200. It's not o/c right now. I need a better fan on it. I can't get adequate cooling with stock fan. Computer would always crash.

If you really wanted a top of the line computer, you'd be getting a new one every year. But I don't think most people can afford a new computer that often. Which is why mine is gonna have to last for at least another two years or so, hopefully.

SM3.0 is just a more optimized 2.0. Nothing new is added, so it'll run fairly well. The reason they didn't implement it is because nVidia and Unreal developed it. ATi didn't know anything about it.

Also, it won't be used too much when you think about it. Doom 3 will have the premiere game engine for the years to come. Think on it, and you'll see why.

Wait why was it so difficult to find your graphics card's drivers? Is it some really really obscure card or something? I mean 99.9% of the time the drivers from Nvidia or ATI will work fine for their 3rd-party made boards...

Edit: Oh, and Radeon 9800 Pro.

Well, maybe. If you think though, the original GF FX cards suffered horribly in games using pixel shading, from unoptimized code in the pipeline. If games require pixel shader 3.0, it could still hurt the X800's performance, the same way it did to the FX line.

And no, pixel shader 3 is not just some optimizations, ps3 requires full 32bit floating point color, while ps2 requires just 24bit. Note the word requires, if (and some deveolopers are very interested in ps3) deveolopers embrace ps3, it could very well hurt the x800, but well just have to wait and see.

And I seriously doubt that the D3 engine will the be the premiere game engine for years to come. Go Source engine! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

What do you mean you thought the only 9800 cards were the pro and xt, you stated youself you have a 9800.
And you just overclock it to pro speeds... not rocket science. My 9800 np is running at 400mhz/630mhz, faster than the Pros core clock, but the mem is a bit slower.

does anyone have an old card they could send me?

The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc., IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.

If you can FIND one, Radeon 7000 and 7500s are good cards. They're dirt cheap too, like 30-40 bucks, and outperform GF2/GF MX440
