Anybody working Black Friday today?
2006-11-24, 12:03 AM #1
Aside from not being able to sleep all night, I have to go into work at 6:00 AM. I work at a Target and out to be funny seeing all the morons running towards the toy and electronic departments. Luckily, I work in the grocery department, which means I practically get the day off! :D Who shops for groceries on Black Friday anyway?
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

I will be working on Notebooks until 01:00 PM, at which time I will be boarding a bus to go march in a parade. Getting paid to march in the parade. Hey, that rhymes.

No classes today, so I get to work. Fortunately, Home Depot doesn't get very busy on Black Friday.

Charoziac told me last night that had to be at Best Buy to open at 4 AM this morning. Poor guy.

The benefit of working at a school is you get extra days off around the holidays. :)

Yes, 2pm-10:30pm. But it is at a grocery store and I don't see it getting too busy today except maybe some people planning to have their family get togethers tommorow.

I had my crazy day on Wednesday. It was only 6 hours, but 6 hours of running the express lane register. Stupid ****ing people - had guys trying to hand me cash for their order when I was still getting change out for the order before them. People who must just think 12 items or less is just a suggestion (I don't care if it is a couple of things over but 35 items :argh: ) Then the store director thinks she is helping you by bagging but she really is in your way.

I said I would come in to work even though I technically don't have to.

I worked today at Toys R Us from 4:30-2:30. It was NUTS. But it's fun because I get to herd my flock of cashiers. :)

I worked at Wal-Mart from 5:00 to 2:00. It went quite smoothly, actually. At 7:00 all 31 cash registers up front were open and half had no one in line.

Why were you working all 3 shifts?

We had the 9-12 (1) people work at noon the next day.

And I work at 8:30 AM today too, I'm about to go to work actually

[PS: What dept are you in? I'm in the corral]

I work in business sales, so I ran the POS at our desk and did cell activations for the $200 deal all night.

Our store is really understaffed so they needed me all 3 shifts. .(

That's really funny because no one in business sales at my store does activations at all.

I turned about 4 people away for various reasons (no credit card, wanting to extend time for future activation/no rebate, etc.
That $200 phone deal sucked for customers, it was too complicated.

Our store was very understaffed when I started, but it's picked up. It's one of the top 15 stores I think.

Ended up working 3:fourtysomething to about 4:15p. Megaexhausting. Our store is a pretty small one (Best Buy, but the second smallest floor plan). Last year, Black Friday, we did 400k in revenue. This year, we did 803k. Talk about crazy busy? That was crazy busy.
Frightening the very small and very old since 1952.

I can't work Black Friday today. Today's Sunday.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Except that, other people posted SIXTEEN MINUTES BEFORE HIM. That is NOT bringing back an old thread.

I'll not stand for these false accusations. I do not bring back old threads, and I most certainly am not a clever one.

ahh yeah, I worked at Bath & Body Works 7 am-3 pm. The horror! The people were actually a lot nicer in the morning than later on in the day.

I went to work for about an hour and a half. We planted some old lady.

Time and a half for 60 minutes of sitting around and 30 minutes of work.

Is the smell something you get used to?

I mean, it's not a bad smell. It's just weird walking into a store than smells like a gigantic soap isle + cinnamon + fresh cut spring flowers strewn over a babbling brook... Or something.

Alot of the newhires complain about the smell at the airport. Which is something I guess you also get used to.

Whats an airport smell like? The only one I distinctly remember was in LA, and it wasn't so much that it smelled, as that the air was very near to being a solid.

Well I work outside, and I remember sorta being able to taste the exhaust in the area.

And the noise, you eventually start to block out all the background noise. Except for the EXCEDINGLY loud little jet planes.
2006-11-26, 11:43 PM #37
yeah, you definitely get used to the smell. The real problem is the days when you mix a whole lot of different scents on your hand. That's not something you get used to. But then you can't wash your hands because, of course, they have scented soap. This is why it's better to ring people up than it is to work the floor.

One time, I was on my way to a date, and I was stinky, so I ran though a Bed Bath and Beyond for a few minutes and came out smelling nice.
