The First Massassian Dribble Drabble Contest
2006-11-27, 10:48 PM #1
The first Massassi Dribble Drabble contest has begun! The idea is simple.

You will be given a theme. You then write a "drabble" about or related to said theme. There will be a deadline - 10 days from November 28th, which is December 7th. On December 8th, I will compile all entries into another thread with a poll option, and we will vote for a winner. Depending on how many entries we have, we will have a set of judges who will narrow the options down enough to allow for voting on a thread. Judges will not be allowed to participate in the contest. I will try to come up with some sort of prize. Perhaps an admin can help me out with an idea. We may have more contests in the future, depending on how the response is to this one.

Here are a few ground rules, although more rules may be added as issues arise:

  • The drabble must be exactly one hundred English words. All words must be found on either dictionary.com or webster.com. One hundred words, no more, no less.
  • Original work only. No quotations from other works.
  • Individual entries only, no co-authored work.
  • You may submit as many entries for show as you like, but the author must decide on one for the final vote.
  • Drabbles must be PM'd to Steven before the deadline to be considered entered into the contest.
  • The drabble must be directly related to the given theme(s). This will be open, but try not to be too off topic.

100 words is not very much! The bulleted rules are exactly 100 words. Choose your language wisely!

The theme is:

Workday Woes and/or the worst gift you have ever received.

[The title of the drabble is included in the total word count.]

Cool idea but the theme doesn't tickle my fancy so I'll sit this one out.

I'll play your game.

Where/when should I post my drab?

After much complaining from certain individuals, the theme has been changed to something broader.

Post your drabble in this thread, on or before December 7th.

Like I said before, if I don't end up writing anything, I'll certainly help judge. I also posted about this on the ISB, so hopefully some of the hermits that keep themselves to that board will notice this and help out one way or another.

Y'know, I had my interest piqued, and then I realized how damn short 100 words really is.

But I guess that's the great thing about it--making a story with a good draw and exposition in such a short space.

It's like channeling the power of twelve black holes into the fist of a midget.

With that inspiring imagery in mind, I guess I'll try a few

I wanna enter, but I've never had a job. :(
nope.

A Drabble is an extremely short work of fiction with exactly one hundred words (although some have extended this to mean 'short story of less than 500 words').

So are we going for the 100 word version?

I want to do the old topic. :(

Oh, and the title counts in the length, silly-billies.

oh. damn.

I've written something, but I'm not sure if it'll be my entry yet.

I wanted to suggest also that rather than posting here, the entries should be PM'd to someone, and then reposted so that their author's are anonymous... Just to keep things honest.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Good idea, Sarn.

Also, since the first theme kind of got boggled, we can go with both for this round.

RULES UPDATED. Read first post.

You need to update the rules. If your Drabble has a title, the words in the title are counted in your 100 words.
