I found that browsing for mp3 players and I'm wondering why it's so cheap compared to other mp3 players. Is it because it runs on battery?

I'm thinking if I should buy that or the new clip on shuffe.

It's probably because of the (relatively) small capacity. I got a very similar MP3 player last year and it wasn't much more expensive than that. 1 gig players are a dime a dozen these days.

Yeah, that ****er's tiny capacity wise. And the battery life is horrendous. AAA players should get at least 12-15 hours on one battery, and a lot of them go 25-35 hours.

It's crap. (Same as the shuffle).

Actually the new shuffle's pretty slick, and nicely priced. The old one was meh, IMO, but I like the new one.

Also, you gotta realize the price range you're looking at.

I can't possibly understand why anyone would want an mp3 player with no screen. It's like having a cell-phone with no screen. Sure you could make them helluva lot smaller, but it defeats the purpose.

When you have 200+ songs on something like that, it sorta helps to have a screen to see where the hell everything is.

I don't agree with the concept either, but at the same time it's MADE for jogging and other such activities. If you need a screen while you jog, that's what the nano is for. Most people, while exercising, don't take time out to select their music.

I have a shuffle I use when riding my bike or painting. It works fine for those purposes. I load it up with around 250 songs or so, but here's the catch: they're all songs I actually want to listen to. Once every couple weeks I go through the 1300ish songs I have on here and make a new list.

Then again, I don't even own a cell phone, so it seems I have pretty heavy minimalist leanings so far as electronics are concerned. A screen is just one more thing that can break.

For $60 you can have my "gPod". Why does it cost so much? Because I used masking tape and a sharpie on it, and that effectively doubles the value of it because, hey, it's me.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I just looked it up, and the 1 GB version goes for like $250 (didn't shop around, mind you). Doesn't that seem extremely high for so little storage?
2006-12-03, 10:56 PM #16
It's like 160 at wal-mart for the 1gb version iirc. Or was it 2gb. I'm not sure. Either way I was kinda impressed.

It does seem like a lot, but it'd be worth it I think.

Some people just don't care what song comes on next.

I'm assuming all the songs would be what the person actually likes (otherwise what's the point) so why would they need to care? Whatever came on they'd like.

What I find is that I have "moods". I may like a song, but sometimes I don't want to hear "loud" songs, I want to hear soft ones. And sometimes I get tired of a particular artist, or something.

It happens quite often with me, and I find having a screen invaluable.

... I don't need a screen to listen to my music. I have a Creative Nano Plus and its more than fine to me. Then again, I'm used to old school walkmans and cd players, so I'm just happy I can listen to my mp3s for 50$ while I'm working out.

I'm a big fan of these small players. I have a small Creative one, too. It rocks. I put music on there that I want to listen to, and I have it on shuffle mode all the time. I don't see the point of having an MP3 player that plays movies and games and costs 8x as much if all you want to do is play music. A lot of the off brands play other file types, too, like OGG, which is what the majority of my music is ripped to. Plus, the interface for putting new songs is a lot better than the stupid ITUNES. All I do is mount it as a drive and drag the mp3s I want over to it.

Mine has a really small screen which allows you to set options and see the song/artist names scroll by (one at a time). I rarely look at it.

That's how it should be. Just a small screen to organize, and do what needs to be done (selecting folders, artists, options, etc).

It "shouldn't" be anything. You're obviously not the target audience so why does it bother you so much that it doesn't have a screen?

I love my little SanDisk player to death. I got it two years ago for Christmas, so it's only a little 512mb player with a small screen, but man is it awesome. It's perfect to take wherever I need to go with it, and keeps enough music that I have enough options to choose from, though I tend to mostly just listen to podcasts on it. Best part is I can turn it off and have it save the spot in the podcast where it was, so I can just pick it back up and listen in chunks as I move between classes or wherever I happen to go.
