Happy Finnth of July

Today it has been 89 years since Finland gained independence. I bet you all care.

So Finns, are you going to watch Linnan juhlat on TV? Will Lordi arrive (without masks of course)? Oh, the excitement!

Not to forget Tuntematon sotilas (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048752).
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Actually the whole nation is celebrating Zuljin's birthday :)

Anyhow, I don't want or care enough to watch freaking Linnan juhlat (unless some stupid protesters end up there and then the army has to kick their asses, that would be neat) or freaking Tuntematon Sotilas. I'll just listen to Jean Sibelius - Finlandia like all day, eat pizza and... sit right here.

Amazing.

I slipped into #massassi a couple of hours ago to wish some Finns a happy Finnday, but there weren't any there.

Somehow I feel like when you have watched the Linnan juhlat a few times you have seen them enough times for the rest of your life - especially when the brainless commentators think I'm more interested in their inane comments about the bloody dresses of the people than the people's very identities. Which leads me to believe even the commentators don't know who they are even though it'd be their job to know - so why should I care?

So, I think I'll rather follow FG's example, and listen to Finlandia, eat lasagne, and sit right here.

What did you get independant from? Russia? Tyrannical Swedish overlords?
2006-12-06, 1:27 AM #8
Russia. When they became communists, the Finns decided to leave the sinking boat. A tyrannical emperor was one thing, but communists something totally different evil. The brave Swedes had lost Finland to Russia about a hundred years earlier.

Hmm... I don't think I've ever heard of a thing like that before. It's kind of nasty to perform a suicide like that. It's supposed to be a dignified yet festive parade.

Apparently he was a veteran of WW2. Who knows why he wanted to die like that, being run over by a tank.
