"For the first time in nearly fifty years another mammal, specifically an aquatic mammal, has gone extinct. In this case, it was the white dolphin, also known as the Baiji, which used to live in the Yangtze River in China. The dolphin had been known to exist for the last 20 million years."
:(

The white dolphins were featured in Douglas Adams' book "Last Chance to See". I think most people who've read the book will agree with me that this is really sad news. Perhaps it's good that Adams didn't live to see this.

Meh, I'm gonna go listen to Linkin Park...

At the rate we're going they'll be nothing left by 3000, except maybe cockroaches.

Figures. China has problems keeping up human rights, not surprising also the lives of animals.

I really don't see what the big deal is.

Things go extinct.

Oh well.

Well its obviously not the end of the world, but it still sucks. Not the it'll affect my life in any way whatsoever. I didn't even know those "white dolphins" existed in the first place.

This is why animals go extinct in the first place.

You really think animals wouldn't go extinct if we weren't the dominate animal on this planet?

NEWSFLASH;

The earth and even the universe are both perfectly capable of ****ing themselves over without human intervention.

Maybe I just believe too much in survival of the fittest.

It's just a problem when species become extinct due to our abrupt intervention, the consequences aren't worth fur coats.

While species go extinct for thousands or reasons besides human intervention, the white dolphin has become extinct because of poor environmental regulations of Chinese industry. Nearly blind dolphins+big ships going up and down the Yangtze does not end well for the dolphins. The article says that the water wasn't contaminated enough to be toxic to dolphins, but I'm sure pollution has enough effect to ruin their habitat.

Dolphins have fur?

Either way, I don't typically care about that either. The world didn't end when any other species went extinct. Human intervention or not.

**** goes extinct all the time, big deal, i'm sure all those "save the planet" freaks will be pissed off to know that eventually the planet will be back to tip-top condition and that the human race aren't around anymore.

Of course not, but it doesn't mean it's a good idea to recklessly destroy the ecosystem.

And how did these white dolphins affect my life in any way whatsoever?

That's what I thought.
