Steam's been defeated by weather

Quote:
There is currently a wide spread power outage in Bellevue/Seattle impacting Steam Server availability. Unfortunately ETA for when the power will be restored is unknown as the power company will only work on restoring it once the storm has eased and the high winds have died down.

that only took 5 minutes of waiting for their forums to load, per page.

so anyone with the "Steam Is Currently Having Trouble Connecting to the Steam Servers" Error, don't fret, Seatle is just under attack by nature

Ah, I was wondering why it said "could not validate user ticket" when I logged into some CSS servers. That storm is supposedly headed my way today. It's supposed to be pretty nasty-- as nasty as storms get in the northwest anyway.

I'm pretty sure that huge solar storm that hits today won't help matters either.

When you can't sit inside and play videogames because it's bad weather out, something has gone horribly wrong.

In other news: The Wii works in rain or shine.

Ugh. This is one reason why Steam shouldn't manage/control my games.

Hopefully this won't happen often in the future.

You might have problems if your batteries fly out of the remote or the strap breaks coughrecallcough.
2006-12-15, 1:03 PM #10
Why would the batteries fly out... You playing it with the compartment off? Lawl.

As for strap breaks, stop trying to play like a major league batter >.>

Yes, generally single-player games don't have a problem with servers going down.

Can you still play Half Life SP without connecting to Steam?

Yeah, it got freaking windy here in the Admiralty Inlet. The nearest weather station recorded 47 mph with gusts to 64. Not as bad as last time (80 mph gusts). But still pretty windy.

I can't. Offline mode works almost half the time for me.

Most of the time I never get prompted for offline mode. This is one of those times :gbk:

In extension to my post, does anyone happen to have my necromice pic around? Gonna get a collection of my MSPaint creations going.

Technically, it doesn't work IN the rain OR the shine. But if it's rainy out it won't hinder it--sun might.

The storm's actually affected the entire state, and northern Idaho, and Oregon as well..

Schools have been closed, trees and signs have been knocked over...
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Yeah, my school closed. +1 days of christmas break. Not as awesome as the week off for snow though.

Bellingham wasn't too bad, but the howling winds make quite a racket (and shook the entire upper floor of our house). Edmonds was a damn mess when I drove home this afternoon...all the traffic lights were out, which brought traffic to a grinding halt all the way from the I5 offramp to the ferry. The olympic peninsula got battered pretty hard, too. Lots of places without power, and large road crews all over the place trying to cut down fallen trees and repair power lines.

Yeah, I'm on the olympic peninsula, huge tree fell down nearby, and my aunt and cousin werent able to get home because powerlines fell across the road, blocking it. I wish it had been more windy during the day though.

EDIT: Found this on the schools website, such awesome. "Friday December 15, 2006: School is cancelled due to extreme weather."

Is Brian without power? Doesn't he live in Washington?

Assuming you mean me, yes, I was without power, and without cable, but I'm back, *****es.
And if you mean Brian as in Brian Brian, I think he moved out of the state.
Two of my next door neighbors' houses were torn in half by the same tree. Another neighbor lost his porch. We're still good at casa del Jones, though.

-Except for the power phasing in and out. That sucks.
2006-12-16, 1:45 AM #26
Last I knew Brian lived somewhere in kitsap county, which has had alot of power troubles from what I've heard. But its probably all fixed up by now, or will be very soon.

Last time we had 80 MPh winds they created some sort of vortex thing on the side of a skyscraper, and riped a bunch of the side off.

I live in Silverdale, now. Yeah, we had pretty high winds. There are tons of trees around my house, but we must be sheltered because although we heard the wind, and cracking branches and falling trees, the ones around my house were barely swaying. We lost power on Thursday night and it came back Saturday morning. Sucked with the baby, but we stayed over at my folks house Friday night.

I live in sammamish, east of seattle, across both lakes. We got hit pretty darn hard. Tons of people with smashed homes, my friend almost got smooshed in his living room, its a miracle hes still alive. A neighborhood 100 yards away is at the edge of the plateau, with nothing sheltering it from the winds coming across the lake... it was ridiculous. The damage was insane. trees down EVERYWHERE. It was a biiig storm, and we got power back yesterday morning. Still tons of people without power, though.

Wow, sounds like it was pretty protected where I am.. Windy, but not many trees went down.
