Problems with Morrowind
2006-12-21, 4:11 AM #1
I recently bought Morrowind game of the year edition that comes with the two expansion packs (tribunal and bloodmoon). Morrowind runs fine except for some random crashes that I can't get around. I havn't noticed any patterns of anything that the crashes have in common, it just crashes for no reason at all. My version of morrowind is v1.2.0722, have there been any patches that fix this? I checked elderscrolls.com and the patch they have for morrowind is 1.2.0722.

I havn't installed the expansions yet, could that fix this?

Morrowind always was and always will be buggy, but don't let that stop you, it really is a good game.

Remember to save often and use different save slots, I usually do an actual save before leaving a town, a quicksave every so often and another actual save before starting a quest/mission.

Don't know about everybody else but mine is most likely to crash as I cross from one grid to another (you can tell in game by the slight load time, dependent upon computer specs).

Try adjusting the ini file so it keeps the framerate down a bit, I found that can help, there's a few other things you can change too but can't remember what, I'm afraid you'll have to figure that out on your own.

It's made by Bethesda. That should tell you enough.

It's a wonderful game though, despite the bugs.

Morrowind is pretty infamous as far as the crash problem. It doesn't seem to clear the ram as you travel from cell to cell (once it runs out of space, it eventually crashes to desktop. Oblivion still does that sometimes as well :( (although the dozens upon dozens of mods I've got installed probably have something to do with that as well).

But yea, as Draco said, "Morrowind always was and always will be buggy, but don't let that stop you, it really is a good game.".

Its also blessed with a lot of great mods.

Taking the max FPS down to 60 helped alot, but it will still crash after awhile, usually when loading a save game, but i can deal with it since it's not all that often. I found a few other things that i'm gonna try out as well on gamefaqs.

Thanks for the help
