Post your miraculous recoveries

Just finished finals, and had quite a scare with my stats class. I got 67 on the first midterm, 82 on the second, and 57 on the third. He was only counting the top two midterms, so my mark going into the final was about 70% (midterms were worth a total of 45%, quizzes were 5% [I did horrible on almost all of them], and the final was 50%). This meant I only needed 30% on the final to pass the class.

The night before the final I was worried. I had had the flu for the past few days and felt like total crap. I studied as much as I could, but it seemed like nothing was sinking in. I felt like I knew nothing.

I wrote the final and discovered that I was right, I really didn't remember anything at all. Even stuff that I had done well on before (like my 82% midterm) I was doing bad at. The exam was also incredibly hard, if I calculated the class average correctly, it was 48.6%.

Anyway, I was scared. I wasn't sure about any of my answers, so I was pretty much hoping for enough part marks to get my 30%. I just got the mark today, and it turns out I got 38%, allowing me to pass with a 53% overall. And I couldn't be happier.

Well, I survived my myelodysplatic syndrome before it turned into full leuchemia in 1997 by a bone marrow transplant and that's enough of a miraculous recovery to me. I even got rid of my polyarthitis afterwards.

I had a temper tantrum when I was young and I threw a three pronged plug kind of like this (except sharper thinner prongs) at my mom since she asked me to give it to her. The three pronged part hit my baby sister's soft head when she was only about a year old or maybe even youger as she was sleeping on mom's lap. She started screaming and my grandpa almost beat the crap out of me ( I really deserved it ). But thank God nothing happened to my little sister.

I ****ed up my stats class this semester too. No where near failing (at least I dont think so) but I neglected to turn in some homework and did lackluster on the midterm. The final was difficult, at best I think I can still get a C, but probably a D :(

I had a class in uni that was all about how to use Microsoft Access and Excell. Having used briefly Excell in high school and figuring Access to be much the same, I think I went to a combined total of 3 of the lectures, pracs, and tutes for the entire semester. The final exam was worth 80% and with about an hours study directly before the exam I managed to pull off a 63% for a passing total grade of 50.4%

I got a B in Calc 2 after getting A's on everything up until the final .

I scraped a C in Stats for Poli Sci. I don't know how I managed that.

Got a 71 on my Digital Logic midterm, and the final was worth 40% of the final grade. I pulled off a B in the class.

Got 68% on both midterm exams in my DBMS class, and ended up with a B in the class due to the coolness of our final project.

I had a foundations of mathematics (like a mixture of math theory and logic) course last semester that I was doing pretty bad in. I had around 50% going into the final. I studied my *** off the day before and ace'd the final, pulled my mark up to a B+. I was pretty damned proud.
2006-12-21, 2:43 PM #13
Failed 2 tests in math...Yest still got a B.

A 53% is passing at your school?
Life is beautiful.
2006-12-21, 3:35 PM #15
^It depends. 60% is a pass for diploma programs while 50% is for degrees around here.

I only had two options for my non-music elective this year: philosophy and sociology. I took sociology, figuring nothing could be worse than philosophy (I took that last year). Well, it turns out that sociology is like a hundred times worse than philosophy. I got 50% (I was really afraid I was going to fail, which would have screwed up the summer job I was gunning for).

But are you in college yet?

In high school, for the fourth semester of the Cisco Academy course, I had a C or C+ going into the final, I got a B on the final, and an A in the class. O_o

High schools a total joke, I do -nothing- and I've got likea 3.7 or so.

Depends on the high school. You wouldn't have gotten a 3.7 coasting at my high school. Maybe more like a 3.0.

Yeah. In all my CS courses I need 60%, but in the others I just need to pass (50%).

I had sociology this last semester. I think I would have rather had my eyes gougued out then taken that class. But at least my GE's are now done and I only have my core classes left.

I was playing Gears of War in canals and my whole team got slaughtered right away. I was back on the first bridge sniping, and I took off one's head during the initial fire fight. Suddenly it was me against three locust. One came up right behind me before I saw him, but his first shotgun blast didn't kill me and I beat him down. I ran over to the broken side and saw the other two locust. I switched to my shotgun and took cover on a column. I popped out just enough to let them see me. They charged, coming down both sides around the column at once. I stuck my shotgun out one side and blasted one in the face. It didn't kill him, but he went down. Then I flipped over to the other side. The second came around with his chainsaw raised, but I poured a shell directly into his skull. It exploded and his brain fell out. Then I raped and smoked the other one, and finally shot his head off with the pistol right before he bled out.

Cisco Networking Academy is pretty tough, really, but our instructor was terrible and let us use the online text while taking the tests. I came out with no shot at certification, but I had an A.

In one class I refused to do any of our "art awareness" reports, which were worth ten percent of our grade.

I also refused to turn in one project.

I missed over 200% the number of allowed absences, amounting to eight.

Yeah.. why are people having so much trouble with this? Is it really that uncommon? Elementary school, high school, and now University, 50% has always been a pass for me.

All the classes I'm taking now, you fail if you get less than 80%.

Of course it's a fantastic relief that you recieved a transplant and survived a horrible illness, but how exactly is that miraculous? Did you recieve a bone marrow transplant from Jesus? Not to take anything away from your recovery, but give a little credit to the doctors and nurses and all the perfectly natural things that brought about your health. Sometimes nice things do happen in this world, they don't all need to be attributed to God.

That was pretty much my Mom's grading scale until 10th grade.

I don't see where I mentioned God, however.

God is with me when I play Gears of War. That is why I own so much. God guides my shotgun pellets into their skull. God holds my longshot and makes my aim true. God pulls the trigger on the boomer at just the right moment.

Please God, help me to destroy my enemies, and then help me rape their helpless corpse while they are on the ground bleeding out.
