Wii Web Browser Released

Check your Wii. It should be blinking.

Posting with the Wii is hard.

Yes, this feature deserves it's own thread.

Well, the Internet Channel just launched. Or at least the "Free Trial Version" did. And for being Opera, I'm really disappointed. There's no tabs (and thus no way to have more than one window to up), no right click, no copy/paste, the scrolling is crappy, and it all just seems very rudimentary. I really can't see myself using this much, except for when someone's using the computer. Maybe the full version (which we get to pay for, apparently) will be better.

I really can't stand reading forums without tabs. Also, doing anything with it takes a while. Oh well, it's free.

From http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2006/12/22/: "Nintendo is currently offering a free trial of Opera for Wii which is now available for download. The release of the final version of the Opera browser for Wii is currently scheduled for late March 2007. Opera for Wii will remain a free download until June 30, 2007. After June 30, Opera will be available for download from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii points. Users who download Opera before June 30, 2007, can continue to use the browser at no cost for the lifetime of the Wii system."

So this is only a beta. With any luck the final version will be better.
Sorry for the lousy German

Dunno I think it works pretty well actually.

Edit: the flash player on the wii is MUCH better than the ps3/psp's
It does youtube and hi-quality newgrounds animations without hardly a bit of slowdown

Well, since SAJN is banned, we need to catch up on this urgent Wii news.

If you're sick of the forums being entirely occupied by wii topics, why not start threads about other topics? The idea is to create more discussion, not less.

Maybe he's not planning on getting a Wii until after the browser is no longer free?

That's planning pretty dang far ahead, 6 months?

My stepson wants a ps3 and he gets 1.50 a week in allowance, so he's planning over 8 years in advance.
2006-12-22, 1:41 PM #16
Due to inflation, I propose an increase of the $1.50

I'm on the wii browser right now and it takes forever to type, I'd really like a keyboard (wireless, of course).

Are you using the dictionary? It helps. Also, I find I can type faster using the number pad method (Aka cell phone style).

I've trying all day to get to the Wii shop, and it always says it couldn't be accessed. I know the connection is working because I got the email that said it was live.

Sort of. It only ever finds the word when I have one character left, though. Silly. I hate the cell-phone style, it drives me nuts.

I'm thinking of hosting a website on my computer that I can access from my Wii, allowing me to stream my mp3's and stuff remotely.

Worked just great for me, it was actually faster than normal.

I didn't have any problems getting the download, it took about 3 minutes, I think. Not incredibly fast, but it was alright.
2006-12-23, 1:20 PM #27
It took mine 24 minutes in the Shop Channel to get the browser. Was extremely slow downloading, but I downloaded it when it was released so it could've had some traffic. The browser works fine though, but I cannot get youtube videos to play. Says I need the newest flash.
2006-12-23, 1:49 PM #28
Youtube and Google video work perfectly fine in mine?

Well, he's 9 years old, he gets 3 a week from his mom, and I make him put half of anything he brings in into a savings account. Meh. When I was a kid, I got a dollar a week ;)

I never had an allowance. Lucky kid. :p

I think it's great that you make him put money in a savings account, I'm sure when he's a little older he'll appreciate what you've helped him establish.

You should teach him about inflation.

Oh, and apparently this Youtube problem was actually a problem with Youtube, not the browser. So it should be working for everyone now.
