getting rid of a trojan
2006-12-23, 10:24 PM #1
Well, I went and did it. I finally got myself a trojan/virus/something on my computer, and whenever I boot up windows one of the first things I see is the windows "syspools.exe has malfunctioned (or whatever it says) and must be shut down" or whatever.

How should I go about destroying this malware? I already ran ad-aware and got rid of a bunch, so it's not that. Ad aware couldn't do it.

There's this Prevx1 Remove Malware program i found by googling syspools.exe, should I try running it?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Start in safe mode, then visit this url and bam, free virus scanner (better than AVG at that)

well we were at my grandparents house...so we put it in a kleenax until we could take it out to the car and then threw it away at a gas station.

Don't know if that helps you or not

youll need to choose safe mode with networking to use housecall.

Formating is the easiest way and the only way to be sure you got everything.

I always tie it off, put a little hole in the top, and hang it on a tree branch. How festive.

I was gonna say "Invade Troy" but someone beat me to the punch with something similar...
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

After I'm done with my trojan I usually flush it down the toilet.

This is EXACTLY why the tech forum should have stayed where it was, even if I could have picked a better topic for the thread.

I tried pressing F8, windows just booted like normal. I pressed it on my mobo splash screen, and pressed it again on the second boot-up screen for me, which is where it goes through the boot order.

A format is starting to sound kinda nice, if I can copy all my **** to my backup DVD, and I think I probably could without them being infected.

I have found a combination of spybot and AVG to be indespensible (?). For ones that these programs cant get rid of just do a websearch for the virus' name and usually someone else has already found a solution.

I share my computer so there is always someone putting something stupid on it.

I ran Housecall in safe mode just now. Well, I'm not sure if I actually RAN it. I started the scan, and then left the room to let it run. I came back 30 minutes later, and the browser was closed. So I tried running it in IE, same thing.

And I just started up regularly, and the "syspools.exe must be terminated" thing just showed up again.

I bought spysweeper, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I've been going through and just trying anti-virus and anti-spyware tools on my mother's computer and so far this has been the one that has idiot proofed it for her.
