Emon: I'm not claiming that genetically engineered crops haven't saved lives in India and could potentially save more in several African countries. I'm arguing that this is not the way to go about it. I see the genetic engineering of our food supply to be a contamination. I'll even go a controversial step further than anyone else and tell you that I believe that many countries are vastly overpopulated and if the genetic engineering of food is the only way to save lives, I feel that we should be looking at alternative and drastic solutions such as forcing all humans in those areas to stop breeding (we need to find a way to do this at their birth with the option of reversing it at a later time). What do animal shelters do when there are too many pets around and too few people to care for them? Euthanasia. I don't believe that we should be euthanizing people and if the genetic engineering of crops is a temporary solution, then so be it, but it should not be a long-term solution. Natural and organic crops can sustain a country if there aren't too many people. The problem isn't that natural and organic crops can't sustain a country, it's that there's too many damn people in those countries and we should be seeking real solutions, not just band-aid ones.
