Hooray for bluetooth! So when I started working for Cingular, they gave me an awesome phone, the Nokia E62. Now I have an awesome PDA phone with tons of features including a nifty scheduler/calender, but let's not stop there! So I got a bluetooth headset, and will never have to hold a phone to my ear again, unless it's not my phone. ;) But wait, there's more! Today I bought a bluetooth keyboard off a friend, which will really make my college classes easier. Now, all I have to take with me is this:

No more carrying notebooks and pens, certainly no backpack, and I don't have to lug a notebook around to be able to type all my notes. :D

I guess this can be a post-your-cool-gadgets thread.
<Lyme> I got Fight Club for 6.98 at walmart.

I hate it when people walk around with their stupid little ear things on.

Those things are totally awesome.

I picked up a PSP recently. Portable music, movies, nes/snes/genesis/gba/psx games, wireless internet browsing/IM'ing in a pinch!

I don't understand. Do people type faster than writing by hand for notes in classes?

I type lots faster than I can write...

Most people do, at least those who type regularly.

And yeah, hands free phones are annoying in lots of circumstances. I wouldn't mind owning one, but I'd keep the use minimal, ESPECIALLY in public, because that leads to confusion and sometimes awkwardness. I'm sure they're great (and safer) for driving and more convenient for personal use, when alone.

I bet you look like a tool in class with that thing.

Sometimes professors would motor through the lecture and here I am hastily writing down the lecture material. After 75 minutes, my right wrist throbs with pain.

At least with typing out a lecture, I don't have such wrist pain. And I can keep up with the lecture easier.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Like people are saying, generally yes. I don't have a laptop, but I imagine that having legible notes on the computer would be better than scribbled notes on paper.

Typing notes in class is great, if it's a class where you can do that. All my CS classes have the lecture slides posted on the course websites, so there's no note taking, and my math courses usually use special symbols or graphs, which are easier to write than type. The only classes I ever use my laptop to take notes are usually electives.

As for typing on a PDA, there was a guy in some of my classes when I was in first year that was always typing on his PDA with a keyboard like that (looked really odd because he was a big guy). I noticed that this year he's been using a laptop to take notes. Take from that what you will.

*shrug* I find that if I make an effort to pay attention I generally remember the lectures without referring to my notes.

I have a SONY Bluetooth Mic that I used for lectures. I would set the mic on the front table near the professor, set the PDA to record and then just take brief hand notes. It worked wonders.

I'm pretty sure many professors would complain about recording/intellecture property issues.

I doubt you ever been to a lecture.

If you're not distributing it you'll probably have no problem (how would they even know?). Posting it online, though, is out of the question.
