Mac OS X font sizes?

Okay, this might seem like something really simple to some of you, but I still can't find any information on this, so I need help.

As a Christmas gift, my mom received one of those new iMacs from my dad. She's not really happy about it because of the money he spent on it and she wants him to return it, but she's trying it for now. However, we've already run into a problem. Some of the default system font sizes are too small for her to read without magnification. I did some searching already and the only information I found was how to use the "Zoom" feature, which isn't really a viable solution. We need some sort of system-wide enlargement of the fonts.

So, Massassi, I'm appealing to you for a little help. Is there some way to change the default font sizes in OS X? Is there something similar to Windows' "large font size"?

HALP PLAEZ.

Ah. Thanks for pointing that out, Brian. Yeah, I kind of glanced at that page earlier but didn't get a chance to fully read through it. I'll have to try that "tinkertool" app and see if it works at all. The original poster says it didn't work for him, but we'll see.

Also if you hold control and roll the mouse wheel the whole page zooms in around the cursor.

Has anyone run into a problem where the colours just suddenly degraded to something along the lines of 8-bit? I was browsing in Safari and all of the colours kind of... died. All colours are back when we log out of the user account, but logging back in again reverts the colours back to this 8-bit deal. There's no change if I try switching between "thousands" and "millions" of colours, but changing it to 256 colours looks better than it does on "thousands" and "millions." So, it's actually using less than 256 colours.

Maybe you have a broken one :( Did you buy the applecare warranty?

I did some searching and found someone who had run into the exact same problem. Apparently, OS X just randomly set the "Enhance Contrast" slider up to its max a little while after a software update. That's kind of messed up.

I'm just glad this isn't my system. I like the look of OS X and some of the "user-friendly" features, but I certainly don't enjoy having less out-of-the-box controls for my system settings.
