So I picked it up with some Christmas/birthday money, because #1: it sounded interesting and #2 I am a sad, sad Star Wars consumer w****.
It takes place a year or so before Episode 4, I believe, based on what I know about the plot.
Basically the plot of the game, at least at the beginning is that you play as a mercenary who is quite skilled on her own, but she gets captured during the first mission, and is freed by a little droid she names Zeeo, who becomes her companion. Their friendship is the "Lethal Alliance" the game is titled for, and you can perform a number of attack combos together.
Now for my opinions.
I should warn everyone here that SW: Lethal Alliance feels quite rushed, especially the menu system. Parts of the menu system have text but no graphics AT ALL, you can't access options from in-game, some of the graphics in the menu are simplistic, and the title screen, instead of allowing you to touch it to begin, requires you to press Start... huh. Fortunately the actual game got more attention, but I still find annoying bits. For example, you're encouraged to use team combos to increase your abilities, but it is far less dangerous to your health to simply blast everyone with your blaster pistol. Even in places with mounted cannons you can use, you will lose much less health if you use your blaster to take all the enemies out (I died on a cannon once, and I KNOW I could have escaped nearly unscratched using my blaster).
And I'm not even though the first mission...
One cool thing I found in the game though is the tie-ins with the Expanded Universe... well.. the tie-in that I've found so far. Kyle Katarn pops on the com link to notify the player of an employment opportunity at the beginning of the game. Given his importance in getting the Death Star Plans in Dark Forces, and given it seems the player has a role in forwarding these plans from what I've heard, it's probable I'll hear from him again during the course of the game.
Another interesting thing is in the first mission, after you are captured, you get to play as Zeeo, which is fun. From buttons on the touch screen it looks like you will get the opportunity to split up later in the game as well, perhaps even a regular occurrence or maybe something you can do at will? At any rate it seems to me you'll be able to switch between either character at will when this happens.
Oh one last thing... if you happen to be standing under a platform elevator and it comes down on top of you... you die. Instantly. You don't even get to see what killed you. Sorta lame really... even Dark Forces, which is 13 years old now I think, handled it better.
