People can stop making movies this year, Children of Men is already going to sweep the 2007 Oscars. That is all.
Everybody knows that the Oscars are a crooked game anyway. =D

I'm getting tired of SAJN appearing to be the only authority in films here. But at least he actually picked a good film to recommend for once. But I wanted to see it before it met his approval. :P

That's more or less what I was attempting to say... just with more tact.

And the fact is, it probably won't be getting any oscars. Voters tend to forget about movies released in January. Most oscars go to movies released in the second half of the year.

Regardless, there have been lots of movies I've wanted to see lately, but have not had the chance. Apocalypto, Children of Men, Arthur and the "invisibles", and Children of Men just to name a few.

Last movie I saw in the theater was Rocky Balboa, and I have to say I really loved it. I might have to check this movie out soon.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. The movie is about Theo and the effects of infertility on a personal level (the fact he was in every scene was a big hint). As Theo said in the movie, the cause is irrelevant, it will all be over in 20 years anyway.

The movie was great up until the end.
Then the end sucked.

My friends will never allow me to pick a movie again.

Actually, it was released in like Sept. in the UK, and had a limited US release on Christmas. The full release wasn't until January, but I think at least one of the first two releases should qualify it as a 2006 movie.

I'm pretty sure it didn't make the deadline... The deadline is in late december.

I could be wrong.

Artistically, it was an amazing movie. Everything else felt completely hollow to me. The ending was a total letdown.

I believe it was in a limited release here in the states starting Dec. 15.

Bumpity boo, i'm an admin so i'm allowed.

I just bought the DVD and watched it and thought it was excellent. The ending is more satisfying if you pay attention to the sound at the very end of the credits, I think it's definitely meant to imply something.

The film never needed an explanation for infertility to be found, it wasn't critical to the plot as none of the characters were looking for a cure. However, I was reminded of one of the end-of-world scenarios over at Exit Mundi http://www.exitmundi.nl/Sperm%20problem.htm

The ending was depressing but if fit perfectly and I expected it. This movie was incredibly awesome. It really succeeded in creating the atmosphere the movie takes place in, and I felt that it was real. It was awesome.

Did anyone manage to catch/translate the words at the end of the credits?

Are you talking about the Shanti part? It means "inner peace".

This and Casino Royale are the only two movies I've seen in the theatre in the last 6 months. Everyone should see this movie simply to see the cinematography of the battle scene towards the end of the movie. I probably won't watch the Oscars, or find out about the results until long afterwards, but I've still got my fingers crossed.

K-Pax did something like this, but the writer's at least gave evidence that could support either of the possibilities. Children of Men didn't give any indication as to what happened. No evidence to indicate any possible causes of it. It's a sign of lazy writers.

I think it's a sign of it not being a B movie.

If they explained why, and gave a solution, the movie would be about solving the problem and not about what it was probably intended to be about, a character.

Children of Men has engaging ambience, but not much else. It gets a three out of five from me.

I kept waiting for Theo to pick up a damn gun, but he never did. :argh:

Well, duh.

That doesn't mean I didn't anticipate it and feel antsy when it didn't happen. :P

I agree, the lack of back story wasnt quite so important. You were thrown in to meet and learn about this character, not about what was going on in the world.

I felt that was fairly typical of an English bloke. Most of us wouldn't know how to use a gun properly.

Bumpitty.

I too felt that the ending was a bit of a letdown. Same kind of thing in Gattica. I realize it wasn't the point of the film, but I wish it were.
