Ok, last night I watched "Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story". So, today as I'm mowing the lawn, I start thinking about Peter's little bit about what "grinds his gears" and then I got to thinking about how I really hate it when people correct your grammar mid-conversation.

Example...

Person A: Hey, how are you?
Me: I'm doing good, th--
Person A (interrupting and correcting me): "Well."

This has happened a couple of times...

Anyone else have similar stories?
What grinds your gears?

HATING YOUUUU!!!

What grinds my gears is the phrase 'grinds my gears', honestly.

Gggrrrrr.

People at my school tend to be pretty snooty, and do exactly what you've described. However, the following also occurs:

Person A: "How are you?"
Person B: "I'm well."

"Good" is an adjective, and therefore can be used in this instance, but the person uses "well" to sound educated and sounds nothing but awkward. As a grammar nazi myself, I don't correct people, but lesser grammar nazis infuriate the hell out of me.

People who enthusiastically say "yeah! Let's hang out sometime this week, it'd be super awesome!" Then they completely forget about this, and don't seem to care about getting together anymore. I suppose an easy way to sum it up is: what really grinds my gears are phony people.

That person is wrongly correcting you, because you aren't wrong when you say you're doing good. Good is an adverb. Look it up.

If they ask while you are feeding the homeless or emancipating enslaved puppies, you can say "I am doing good" and it can be taken in every sense of the phrase.

There's not a human that exists that doesn't irritate the hell out of me. I just bite my tongue and pretend not to want to kill all of them.

People who try to soften the blow. I just want to be told what's wrong, I don't want to spend 15 minutes talking about how it's a good project, they love, it's really going to go somewhere, BUUUUT....*insert all the complaints* therefore showing that they were completely full of it with their "It's wonderful! But..." And this goes for everything, not just criticism. I just want to know what's going on, I don't care about having someone "sugar coat it".
I had a blog. It sucked.

Not having tasty beverage around when I want it. Nothing sucks more than being thirsty and not having cold water -_-
