how much better are the new ones? and is there a better video card I could get for gaming then these that is around $300 (preferrably under.. only willing to go about $20 over.. unless there is a sure upgrade $5 higher.) I have an older mother board, so I can't get PCI (i believe that's what it's called, something about linking video cards or something).. I think AGP is all I can get. Let me know

thanks for replying, what is the performance differece between the one you posted and the 2nd card that I posted? (yes I know the 2nd card is over $200.. but I am going to raise to $300.... is there any better for around $300?)

Probably about 10-20% performance difference, but there's the fact that it's 120 vs 280 to consider.

I have the XT, and it's really not that much better than a 9800pro. Not quite as good as a 6600GT. It does have a 256bit bus bus everything else is pretty weak. A 6800 vanilla would be much better if you could find one. You might luck out and unlock something, but they are basically rejected 6800GT and Ultra cores. I think the 7800GS would be worth it if you can afford it.


I think the difference will probably be a good bit more than 10-20% maybe 50-60%+

i bought a 7800GS back in june i wanted to max out the performance of my system so it will last until i can get around to building a whole new PC

i don't know how well the 7600GS overclocks but my 7800GS is a factory overclocked model (430/1300 instead of the vanilla 375/1200) and i run it at 495/1420 with stock cooling no problem

So far, I love this.

I still need more than 1 GB of RAM, but everything (even basic old CS) is purrdy.

He's looking for an AGP card for an older PC, not the fastest thing money can buy.

I own a 6800XT, and it seems the XT series of cards are the lowest end, compared to the GS, GT and vanilla... kind of like the SE cards of ATI. My card gets the job done, but I think it would be worth getting a 6800GT or something. Also, I've heard it's pointless to get a 7000 series card for AGP, as it's missing most of the features that make it worth buying for PCI-e... dunno if that's a fact though.

the AGP 7*00s have all the features of the PCI-e versions just fewer pipes so they are slower

of course there is also that 7800GS+ from gainward which was supposedly a 7900GT core on an AGP card... problem is US availability is non-existant and the price tag (last time i checked) was ~$200 more than a 7800GS
