Why dating can be painful

I had just started up a browser to go so some searching, my homepage being msn, and there was a story that said Dating 101: Where she really wants to go/Where you should take her. I thought I'd look at it just to see what it's all about. I managed to find a piece that shows why I, and I believe many men, get extremely frustrated with some women.

http://msn.match.com/msn/article.aspx?articleid=7197&TrackingID=516311&BannerID=544657&menuid=6>1=8953

First off is the whole tone. Yes, no better way to get the attention of men and get them excited and thinking than by *****ing at them during the entire article. No, this won't make us remember the women we've dated and start to resent women in general even more.

It's all a bunch of "Don'ts". Okay, nice. You told me what not to do. Um...then what do I Do? How about you give me hints into that since that's what I'm trying do: go to a good place and thus avoid the bad place all together! If I go to the good place, I'll logically not be going to the bad place, right? Also, the one time it talks about what to Do, not only is it impossibly vague, but it asks for everything at the same time with none of the down sides.

The place you pick shouldn’t be a “cool dive bar.” Nor should it be a stuffy hotel bar, or any place considered “romantic” (especially if there are singing waiters involved). We’re looking for hip, but not velvet rope. Classy, but not piano bar. Casual, but not free pitchers.

Oh, great. You want to go to a classy place that pretends it's casual or a casual place that pretends it's classy. Gee, that'll help me a lot!

Good advice. But when you ask us out, don’t reveal all the angst that went into your decision.
Oh. So telling you how close I came to stabbing myself in the head with a pair of scissors because I couldn't find a place to take you that wouldn't piss you off in some way, shape, or form is out of the question?

The guy's flip side of this article had a much better tone, but it didn't give very many ideas. Still more Donts. The article title was misleading. It didn't tell me where to take her, and thus make her happy, it just told me how to piss her off less.

If you were about to ask out that author, you might want to reconsider before you go through the hassle.

I'd consider shooting myself in the foot before asking out that author. At least it'd be quicker, less painful, and still have the same end result.

Sad thing is I've dated women like her. *locks and loads a pistol and aims it at the big toe*

I think I may have went out with that broad in my Freshman year.

This is news to anyone?

Some chicks are morons. This has been known for years, it's just most of them don't get published.

EDIT: I also loathe people that like to give "rules" and such for things like dating/relationships. They seem to think there are ways to simply explain complex human behavior by saying things like "no cool dive bars." Right. There isn't a single woman on the planet that likes "cool dive bars." In fact, my current girlfriend LOVES that sort of thing, and would be annoyed if I took her to a trendy place, unless I fed her a steady line of Jager bombs.

One thing I know, but this article did not mention, is that you should never, and I mean never get totally sauced. Getting wasted with a woman on a first date is not a good idea unless she's getting wasted already.

Eh, some of that sounds pretty plausible to me.

Then again, why would anyone agree with her? Bleh.

Of course, my dates usually end when I ask "Are you sure you want to eat that?" when I get too hungry or she thinks I called her fat or something. Bleh.

So... she wants you to take her to cheers?
nope.

This sort of thing is stupid. Being adaptable is pretty important in the dating world.

I liked the article.

I thought the general rule for a first date was: pick something you'd both enjoy.

Am I wrong on this?

I only have one rule: I will never date anyone who has a formula for dating. Especially if she compares my actions to it.

1. She could have given the same advice she just gave in far fewer words just by saying, "Don't date me."
2. Nothing annoys me more than women who try to tell you what all women think. I've said it before and I'll say it again; when it comes to women who are not themselves, they don't know any more than we do.

Seems to me if you have any chemistry at all it wouldn't matter where you go; you'd be happy together anywhere.

The pleasure of company only goes so far. I imagine that a date out to see a Carrot Top movie would be marked as a "bad date", despite whatever chemistry may exist.

Don't ever ask a girl to see Saw III with you.

I brought my girlfriend to see it once, and even though she likes scary movies, well, it wasn't a good sight. Gory != scary. Needless to say, she's an ex now. :P
DO NOT WANT.

You know, I've spent the past few days reading through Tucker Max's website, and yeah, the fact that I now idolize him I think is all that needs to be said.

The only rule is that there are no rules! Execpt of course for the social and legal constraints imposed upon us, such as "no means no" and "don't stop doesn't mean faster".

Why? Because it reminds you that your lifestyle doesnt require you to deal with women?

One thing you must always remember: Every woman is different. There are certainly similarites among us, but one woman's likes/dislikes and expectations for dating can be vastly different from the next woman. My suggestion would be to ask for input as to what/where the first date would be.

My husband and I met online. We lived several hours apart, so for our first date/face-to-face meeting we decided to meet at a city roughly halfway between us. We went bowling, walked around downtown and the little shops, looked at an art museum, and had dinner. Sort of a marathon date, but we wanted lots of time to get to know each other in person.
