Stupid USB question
2007-01-09, 4:55 PM #1
Can I use a USB 1.1 extension cable with USB 2.0 devices and experience no performance loss? My feeling is it's a digital interface, so the cable really shouldn't matter. It's either connected or it isn't. I just wasn't sure if there was some little detail I'm overlooking, like USB 2.0 requiring better shielding or something.

Thanks.

It's fine. USB 2.0 cables might be rated at a higher frequency, but even if that's true, I doubt it would matter much.

Err I dunno. I think the best way to find out is to try it. If it seems like it is as fast as usb 2.0 then it's probably good.

Passive USB 1.1 hubs should work fine with USB 2.0, but powered, no, it'll be slower.
