Canker sores

Gosh I don't like them.

I have one near the back part of my tongue on the side near the last of my molars.

Does rinsing your mouth with warm vinegar with salt or swabbing it with hydrogen peroxide really help?

I'm deciding which one I will choose to use.

I've had success with just swishing around warm salt water.

Hmm.. that might be good too

I really don't want to rinse my mouth with vinegar =/

Just swish hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth, it doesn't hurt, and it won't kill you unless you laugh and it goes out your nose, causing you to fall backwards snapping your neck on the toilet bowl.

Cheney swishes hydrogen peroxide because he has horrible sores on his mouth and has some of the most horrendous halitosis known to man. It's either Cheney or John Ashcroft. But it works.

peroxide or warm salt water helps. Dunno how H2O2 tastes, but salt water is gross.

I swish with hydrogen peroxide whenever I want to clean my mouth out really well. It doesn't taste like anything really, but it foams up the first rinse and you need to spit it out and get more>.>

The foam is it killing the bacteria in your mouth. Probably not the healthiest thing for you, but it definatly cleans it.

just swish any antiseptic mouthwash around your mouth and rub the sore with your tongue while swishing to break the mucus barrier and allow the mouthwash to kill the bacteria inside the sore

Yeah, basically, and don't eat fatty substances before swishing with it.

Woah, first aphtha thread ever in Massassi. Or something.

I had one last week, most annoying this far. Usually I magically cure them in a few days if they're not on a tricky spot.

I could put a long shot through it.

Would you prefer I stuck it? I bet I could hit it with my boom. If you looked up, I'd hammer it off for you.

I used to get them all the freaking time, and they wouldn't go away. I'd bite my cheek and I'd get one within a few days, and it would last weeks. Incredibly painful.

heeb one day suggested that it could be caused by an imbalanced pH in my mouth, and that his sister had had success by changing toothpastes. I talked to my dentist about it and she said that SLS-free (no idea what that stands for) toothpastes may help. I started using Tom's of Maine (go with the mint flavored one, the rest taste like ***) toothpaste and I've only had one canker sore since (in a time frame of over a year).

I discovered that when I did get that one canker sore, I had been drinking a lot of lemonade lately, so I think that contributed to it. I also had to start using mouthwash when I switched toothpastes, as the Tom's really does nothing for your breath.

I have sticks with silver nitrate on the end. Very carefully I touch the silver nitrate to the sore and put it away. About 1 - 2 minutes later, the following reaction is common:

OMG! THERE'S A KNIFE LODGED IN MY MOUTH!!!!

After about 30 minutes the pain subsides, and the sore is usually gone a couple of days later.

Works for me.

I think the thought of putting poisonous silver salts in your mouth that cause that feeling is worse than the sore itself :P
