Seasonal depression
2007-01-11, 7:58 AM #1
This thread isn't going to be a whaaaaa blog from me, don't worry about that.

Straight to the point, I'm having seasonal blues and I'm looking for ways to pick my mood up. The lack of good sunshine over the last year has begun to seriously affect my temper and overall motivation, mixed with the added stress that I must deal with from my job. Graphic designer and production manager is not an easy job so it seems. :P

What do you guys do to pick yourself up when you are down and feeling under the weather?

Lately I've been trying to change my thoughts by playing video games (360 and WoW) seems to help while I'm actually playing but I don't think its enough for me.

Gimmie ideas babybuns!!!!!

I find myself randomly depressed at times, but I kinda forget I'm depressed and that usually works.

That and a lot food and playing some really hard/fast levels to get frustrated over those levels. And music somewhere too.

Pretty much.

Yet to find a way, unless I find a wholesale supplier of serotonin of the back-of-a-lorry variety.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

True, but weighting my pay versus my responsibilities, I'd be ready to give it up for a simple graphic designer job any day. I'm working for some pretty terrible bosses heheh

Music does help but still only for a short period, I was hoping perhaps for more permanent solutions. (( Lose some weight fatty! ;_; ))

Thing is, from what I've seen bro, you're just as talented in graphics design as me, if not more.

Unless you mean drawing people in basic poses without any real backgrounds or content (which is really all I'm good at :P). Sure I'll teach you. haha

I find that lack of exercise doesn't help things when I'm down. If it's not too frikkin' cold just go for half an hour's run or something.

I have seasonal depression as well, but only mildly so. It's on my mom's side of the family. I just use a sun-lamp for reading at night, and it cheers me up almost instantly.

Can anyone recommend a good value SAD lamp? I work from home at the moment and my house gets nowhere near enough natural light, especially when working on computer. I figure that as long as it's good value it's worth the expense.

I got the generic one from a hardware store for 20 dollars and it's amazingly comforting. It's not even a medical sunlamp.

Ah, it's 40 dollars everywhere I can find it:
E-Bay
Amazon

But I tell you, best sun lamp in my household, and my mother has two very expensive ones. It's not very convincing "daylight," but it's TOTALLY the right kind of light.

Hers are more "medical" and look like japanese lanturns. I think they're a gimmick, but she seems to like them.

Ah, sorry. You can probably get something similar. Honestly, if you gave me a couple bucks for international shipping, I'd be willing to buy one and send it off. I might still be able to get a 20 dollar one at mynards.

It's probably lack of sleep, honestly.

I never get "seasonal blues". I never understood it. I actually feel happier in the winter.

Singin' to an ocean
I can hear the ocean's roar
Play for me and play for free
And play a whole lot more, more

Singin' 'bout the good things,
And the sun that lights the day
Used to sing about mountains
Has the ocean lost its way?

Conceive a tremendous idea for an original novel. Then let it consume you’re life. Then you wont ever have time to think about why you have the blues.

I’ll give you some ideas you can start off with.
The main character can be a young woman with pink hair. She wants to be a pirate. You can figure out everything else from there on.

(And maybe the blues are caused be masculine deficiency. For example. You used to be Jepman. But now you are just Jep. What happened to the manishness?)
My blawgh.

Start running every morning, and run 'till you feel your heart burning. Used to give me enough energy drive for the rest of the day. However, now that I'm fat and lazy I've stopped, and life started to kind of suck. So, em, yeah.

Yes. Exercise is needed. Exercise is awesome. Since it releases that drug into your system that makes you happy, you will actually get addicted it exercise. And that's a good thing, for once, to be addicted to this sort of drug. You will be happier. I'm addicted to running now. I even went yesterday while it was snowing and freezing. My hands were telling me that was stupid but it felt so good to be out there getting exercise. Being in shape really, really helps. But then again, I think I'm just addicted. I've never relied on it to be happy because the seasons changing to winter never makes me unhappy... It just feels so good.

Ditto. Im currently unemployed. But it can be fixed (im trying)

Heavy Metal is always a good way to beat depression and last night a cheered myself up by playing that 'Planet Sith' level that someone created for JK. Daft but funny and thought (this is soooo bad, I shpuld be able to make a better level than this). As listening to football matches in England can be funny (when Arsenal's youngsters trashed Liverpool 6-3 at Anfield) great stuff, but Liverpool where Terrible). Thats one good thing about winter in Britain, lots of football (soccer) rugby and horse racing. All smiles :) :)

I feel like I should point out that that was Liverpool's second string team, and that Arsenal have some awesome young talent coming up :P
