Or you could just use SMF, which is free and several orders of magnitude better than vB.

the other problem is translating VB stuff to another forum system (which i believe is possible for most popular forum softwares)

Both of them suck. Actually, I still have access to d/l new versions. But if we do the upgrade, we will lose all our customizations and our styles. Maybe it's worth it? Why do you want to upgrade anyway? We just turn off all the features so they will end up the same :)

upgrading would help get rid of the spammers we get once a week, and maybe if i had some sort of other access i could implement some neat features to bring us up to speed.
