Hell, I saw one on British tv years back, only short range like but still it was a working model. Never did hear what happened to it.

Ehh, railguns are not complicated technology. It's just magnets. I've made a railgun myself, which could fire a nail through sheet metal :o

They're one of those things, like fusion reactors or cruise missiles, that can be cooked up in your garage if you really want to, but it seems nobody ever does.
