In this Rob, you and I can both agree.
Life is beautiful.

Couldn't give a flyingone about it to be honest, but there are many sports that are GREAT to play.

Hell earlier today myself and about 15 other people got bored and played dodgeball for about an hour. We're 17/18 so it stings like hell when you get hit full force. Worse still I got nailed in the face from about 3 feet away by my best mate, while the ball was cover in dust.

Needless to say I was blind for about 5 minutes.
nope.

My Gym teacher in highschool was awesome. He played a type of dodgeball where you replace the dodgeballs with basketballs. It hurt, but it gave people an actual reason to dodge the balls.

I think it's nonsense when people say "I would rather play sports than watch them."

It's just a form of entertainment. It's a competition, and you know, some people kind of like that sort of thing.

But it's true, physically playing a game is much more fun that just spectating.

Take Cricket for example. Most. Boring. Sport. Ever.

But when you play it it's actually pretty damn good.
nope.

Some of us can't physically play football because of physical constraints, and therefore it is enjoyable to watch it.

Doesn't mean they wouldn't rather play it, they just can't.
nope.

I guess I would rather play it... I just like watching people that are really good at it.

Of course I also spend countless hours playing NCAA 2007 Football.

Fair Dos.

[Also, I have no idea what that is, but I'll assume it's a computer game.]

I enjoy watching certain sports - American Football isn't one of them - but I've never given it a chance: it's on at Silly O'Clock over here.

I can't understand people who think that watching sport is totally without merit, fair enough if doesn't float your boa,t but it's odd not to realise that millions of people are passionate about watching their favourite sports and that maybe it's just you that doesn't get it.

I like watching Rugby League. Lots. It reminds me of when I used to play and I can really appreciate the game.

I get it if people want to watch sport to enjoy a beautiful game, but most people watch sport to see one team win.

When was the last time you cheered the other team for scoring a legendary goal against yours? You might do it, but I guarantee you that most people don't.

That being said I know I don't get it, just like I don't get rap music or any of the other things I don't like that other people do. I don't like watching sport because the notion of sitting and watching other people exercise for extended periods does not appeal to me.

I'm a big fan of Notre Dame college football, but I usually find myself enjoying games they're not in a lot more. So yeah, Detty, I know what you mean.

We call them "touchdowns" here :P

Football is fun to watch to see amazing catches or well executed plays. But when the Chargers play, I want our Bolts to utterly decimate the opposing team. Of course I want to see my team win. I believe my team (San Diego) is the most superior team in all of the NFL. Of course this was disproved two Sundays ago.

We call them goals in Ultimate Frisbee, which is obviously the superior sport.

Actually I am one of those - my friends hate it! :) In fact I find it harder to be biased to my own supported team than impartial!

I == oddball.

I think we all need to agree right now that the only sport that's truly enjoyable to watch on TV is ice hockey. That's entertainment.

I hate hockey because in the blink of an eye, the puck can traverse the entire rink. I like sports to have a slower pace. Football fits the bill here. Basketball is annoying for the same reason, and soccer too.

Wait, soccer has too fast a pace for you to keep up? That makes no sense of any kind.

Not... Hockey is torturous to watch on TV, unless there are a lot of fights. Even then its got nothing on Futbol Americano.

What?

footballnotsoccer is very fast-paced, it's just that cameramen have become much better at tracking the action. Sure not many goals are actually scored, but that doesn't mean the game isn't fast. Even if it's slow compared to Ice Hockey, Lacrosse and Ultimate it's much faster than American Football which requires use of CRAZY ACTION CAMERA ANGLES just to make it look interesting.

You should, I watched one Superbowl wholly a few years ago, and it was one of the best games I've ever seen in any sport. That said, I probably won't watch this year's Superbowl, at least not live.

Edit: whether you can get enjoyment out of American football depends on how well you can adjust to the pause-riddled slow pace, though.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The speed and fluidity of hockey is what makes it so much fun to watch! The speed with which the entire game can change is incredibly exciting. I guess I like all my sports fast paced, though.

Never been too much of an American Football fan, its too slow and isn't fluid at all, give me a game of footy any day.
2007-01-24, 12:50 PM #72
I couldn't really care about who won, nor can I watch a lot of football.

However, it gives me a reason to go to a party, which is a good thing.

The American Football i've seen uses very dynamic and zoomed camera angles that sort of fly through the action far more than i've seen with any other sport.

Thats cus other sports dont generate the revenue that the NFL does, so its just not even worth it to drop a bunch of cash for a skycam. They didn't always have that stuff, and plenty of people still watched back in the day...

2007-01-24, 9:43 PM #76
If you had a skycam in soccer, I'd just about guarantee that the ball would hit the camera or the wires with an arcing kick at least once per game. In American football, the skycam operator has a chance to move the camera behind the action between plays so it doesn't get hit.

It doesn't translate to that fast on TV. The field is large and the camera's are far enough away that no one should have much trouble following the ball.

Oh, right, that. The skycam is actually rarely used except in primetime games, and I for one absolutely hate the damned thing.

From a Brisitsh point-of-view, the Super Bowl is watched by quite a few Brits. Odd as it may seem, American Football is played around Europe and well if its deserving of BBC Radio Five Live coverage (sadly its late at night).
I'd be more than happy to know the result was :)
