start menu
2007-01-23, 2:50 PM #1
in windows xp ive always used the classic start menu, but i always enjoy fiddling with different things. so my question to all of you, which start menu do you use for xp?

if you don't use windows xp, meh, your opinion doesn't matter to me.

Classic all the way, I even use the classic start menu on Vista. I hate the new one.

I can't stand "classic" now.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

The new start menu is sooooooooo much faster once you know what you're doing.

I voted for start menu, although in my heart I voted for finland sux.

Start menu. I guess it's better for me - otherwise I would have changed to the classic. I don't remember ever using the classic with XP.

I use the regular start menu.

At first, the 'new' XP menu didn't make sense to me, so I switched to Classic. But now that I know what I'm doing, I use the XP menu and like it.
2007-01-23, 3:27 PM #8
I use whatever the hell XP uses as default.
nope.

I'm convinced that anyone who uses the new XP/Vista start menu is nothing short of a facist pigwhore.

Honestly, I don't remember, since I use the start menu so rarely. I think I use classic in XP, but I really don't know.

In Vista though, I use the new one, and love it. The fact that it doesn't cascade is awesome.
2007-01-23, 4:09 PM #12
I love the new one. I set all the items on the right column to cascade out. I set the left column to have small icons and I pin some of my most commonly used programs there.

I'm okay with that.

I never use my Start Menu. I use a quicklaunch dock for everything I need. I find it vastly more efficient.

This is what I do.

I rarely if ever use it, but I use classic. Come vista that will change.
2007-01-23, 5:33 PM #17
Ha, Gnome is where it's at.

Ok, so I use Classic too.

I think anyone who uses the classic is a fascist pigwhore who is afraid of change.

Classic, but most-frequently-used-programs are on Quicklaunch.

I love the new one.

Classic mostly, but recently I've tried the new one more. I strayed away because of how ugly it looked on the classic theme, but since discovering b0se's amazing XP themes on DeviantArt (which do not require CPU-whoring apps like WindowBlinds), it's much prettier and I'm using it more often.

I use the classic start menu because 1.) The new one is ugly as hell and 2.) I use the run-prompt for what I can and Win->P->Right-Key to open the Programs list for what I can't.

I use the XP one if I use the start menu at all. Mostly I use Launchy or ObjectDock.

I use the classic one, but load up the top bit with my most used shortcuts (and try to give them names with all different first letters) - so I can press Win [pause] 3 to get into 3D+ for instance.

Classic, out of habit / I want XP to look as much like 2K as possible.

I run LiteStep (shut up) on this box tho, so it doesn't even matter

Ive been using windows 98 even today  , so my XP machine is set to classic

I forgot to mention I really like the new Vista Start Menu features. The TreeView All Programs Pane is much better than the cascading menus mess. The integrated search isn't original, but still useful.

I never knew the Finnish version of XP has an extra (sucky) start menu option. But then again, I'm using the English version of XP, so I wouldn't know anyway.

I've always used the classic Start Menu in XP, which has always been better. I don't like the fancy colours in XP and use the most of the Classic window options as well.

I use classic. I'm sure I could get used to the regular one easily, but I enjoy seeing my friends get confused and frustrated when they try to use my computer. That's also the reason I have my mouse on the left, with the button functions reversed:P .
