DS thread
2007-01-27, 8:25 AM #1
We've all seen tons of Wii, PS3, and 360 threads, so I figured since I just got a DS Lite, why not a DS thread?

I have a few noob questions:
-Is the web browser available in the US, or is it just a Europe/Asia thing?
-I read up a bit on mod chips and such, but haven't read much about available homebrew software. Is there a homebrew browser rather than buying Opera?
-Is there a way to get back to the main DS menu (the one that shows the date/time, lets you change options, launch games, etc. kind of like an xbox dashboard) once you've launched a game, or do you need to turn the system off/on?

Thanks, feel free to talk about whatever DS stuff you want.

You don't want the web browser even when it does become available in the US. It's a piece of crap. The DS doesn't have enough memory and STUFF to run the browser at all.
Think while it's still legal.

Hmm, I wondered about that, considering the low CPU speed. I don't think I'd spend money on a browser, but if there's a homebrew version that would be nice.

I don't have a DS lite. Can you use the DS as a planner? Like write notes and put it on a calender?

I think there's homebrew software that you can get to do this. From what I've read so far, it looks like mod chips (that might not be the proper term) cost around $45 US, and require a micro SD card.

I have a DS Lite, but at the moment it's been completely overshadowed by Gears of War on my brand spanking new XBox 360.

It's a great little machine for a quick blast on classic things like Mario Kart.

If you want homebrew, you got the wrong device.

Basically, you want a DS for Phoenix Wright and Phoenix Wright 2.

you have to restart the ds to get back to the main menu. you can also set it up to completely bypass the menu on startup if you have a game loaded.

The web browser COMES with memory doofis.

You have to import it from Europe, it's like $40.

It's neat enough, will do most of your regular browsing and is nice if you don't have a laptop. I use it mostly to check mail and visit forums.
