Duke Nukem Forever screenshot

The people at 3drealms released this in-game screenshot from DNF, and just to be jerks they only released a thumbnail. Enjoy.

My *** if that isn't a render.
Pissed Off?

They claim it's in-game.

That looks kinda neat, but we all know how developers tend to say how certain screenshots are in-game shots.

Besides that there are only two things I have to say about DNF these days:

1) If it's awesome, I'll laugh at everyone who has ever complained about its long development time or any other reason. It would be glorious.

2) If it sucks, well, crap. At least I can still play Duke Nukem 3D and not whine about its age.

Looks in-game to me. Looks like something you'd expect to see in a game powered by Doom 3 engine's pixel shading.
The cake is a lie... THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!!

They're still working on DNF? It's been what, 10 years in development? Wasn't it was supposed to come out on the N64?

They kept switching engines.

it started on the Quake2 engine, but was remade for another engine when the Quake2 graphics started to look dated. I think that it was ported yet again after that.

I remember the "Coming SOON!" video sometime around 2000

Waiting forever indeed.

I think I heard it was supposed to be released on the PS4 and Xbox Quadrilateral.

3drealms has a real problem with doing that.

I remember all of the super high resolution shots from Max Payne.

And also, I am stoked about this game. Still. After about ten thousand delays and engine switches. It went from Quake 2, to Unreal, to Unreal 2, and now I think it's Unreal Tournament somethingorother. Oh well. As long as Duke's lines are funny and there's lots of blood and boobies. That's all you really need.

Aye, as well as a neat level editor. If it's still using some variation of an Unreal engine, it might mean some neat UnrealED fun. Or maybe they remade BUILD

Also, imagine if they still have similar strippers to Duke3D. Heh.

...so they released only one screenshot that is smaller than GBK's sex life?

I don't understand this.

That's what I thought it was, it looked like an action figure.
I had a blog. It sucked.

It's based on the UT engine. Yes, the first one.

I wouldn't doubt it's in-game. They said it was going to come out last year, but I could see the date being pushed into this year. I expect it summer probably.

Why? They already had a demo out almost this time two years ago, so I could see them having it out in a few months here.

I think they'd go for a third quarter release over anything, if only for ULTRA-christmas sales, and for more polish.

Or even better, if Duke Nukem Forever will turn out to have been made on BUILD, period. XD

I think I preferred the "version" that Ars "reviewed"... ;)

Dont be absurd. You know damn well that image is significantly larger than my sex life.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Expect some differences.

If you're referring to the picture I posted, then I don't think it's in-game at all. It looks like a render.

It's an in-game from like 2000.

I know what it is. And I personally think it's a render, but even for a render, my point still stands. Hooray for the game industry, aye?

just because its in-game doesn't mean its not a render.
The duke nukem games on the PSX used CGI cutscenes. In-game...rendered cutscenes.

It definatly wouldn't be the first time someone's claimed an in-game shot and its actually a render.

No... in-game rendered cutscenes are impossible. You're thinking of a pre-rendered movie.

:psyduck:

Everything is rendered one way or another. You people are thinking pre-rendered, although you probably know that, but the semantic confusing is getting a bit thick.

Anyways, I'm almost certain that screenshot is in-game and real-time. DNF was ahead of it's time in 2000. It was probably running at 20 FPS.

Kindly observe that that "review" was posted on April 1st 2006. (And therefore that strip bar render is probably made by them for the "review")
