I need some opinions on the following two items. I'd say what for, but it would probably skew your answers. Anyway, I'm fishing for opinions, and the more, the merrier.

1. What are the pros/cons of MySpace.

2. What are the pros/cons of YouTube.

Ready. Set. Go.

Myspace is useful for keeping in touch with your friends. But some people have ugly myspaces.

Youtube is cool because it has a lot of vidoes. But the comments always suck.

Myspace is neat because alot of people use it, and it can be fun to watch.

Myspace sucks because it is coded horribly, constantly locks up my browser, and sometimes outright fails to do what it is supposed to do.

Youtube is neat, but [some other tube site] is about 500 more buckets of awesome better.

MySpace is nice because it makes me feel important/popular to have lots of friends. Downside is almost everyone on it is a loser with crappy pages.

YouTube is great because I can use their links to post videos in my lj with ease. The comments posted on YouTube, however, are all from people that don't know their head from a hole in the ground.

The main reason I use YouTube is to look up videos that I want to share with other people using their nifty links.

Myspace:
Easy way to keep in touch with friends.
Easy way to advertise your band.
Terrible layout
Terrible servers
Possibly the most vain place on the internet

YouTube:
Great place to find videos for anything, or just random funny ones
Great place to host a video easily if you need to
Comments posted by complete idiots
Unfunny "videoblogs" up the wazoo
Females can IM you to "funny" videos constantly to keep you from getting work done.

Myspace:
Good for friends
Badly coded website and inefficient design

Youtube:
Awesome in every way (in theory at least, users make it different)

Facebook is the site that myspace was meant to be.

I'm not keen on facebook personally.

Not that I use it, I think my friends thing is a total of Geb and Sugarless. :P
nope.

Myspace is interesting for keeping in touch with people and getting connected with people who have similar interests (Met a lot of firefly fans when I posted clips from the show)

However, it seems to be the emo hub of the net.

Youtube is great. It and google video provide a few hours of silliness or educational stuff for when you're bored. However, most of the watching community is made up of assbastards.

As many have already said, myspace is fun for reconnecting with old high school friends, and occasionally meeting new people. The downside is that there are constant errors and huge numbers of people that forward the "myspace is shutting down"/"myspace has been hacked"/"you'll die if you don't forward this" messages/bulletins on a daily basis.

Youtube is great for finding clips of movies/tv shows that would otherwise be hard to find, or even for just looking at stupid things like coke/mentos rockets. what bugs the hell out of me is that so many people feel compelled to make their own "remixes" of just about anything (music videos, movie clips) and upload it, thus filling the search result pages with crap and making it difficult to find what you're actually looking for. there also seems to be a lot of idiotic "lol watch my friend do this hilarious impression" videos that do nothing but kill brain cells. and also (as someone mentioned), the comments system is just like a chat room that attracts all the internet tough guys, who spend all day posting "this sux" on everything, and then inevitably getting in flamewars with each other.

Hmmm... I need to elaborate a little more. I'm not really thinking about design or bandwidth issues here. I'm wanting more about people, I guess.

For instance, from what some of you are saying, I would think that a pro of MySpace is that it creates communities of friends. Cons... I dunno.

The best I could come up with is that YouTube gives people a chance to express either their creativity or their thoughts, or both. Couldn't really come up with cons for this either.

I need mo' opinions!

For both I think you could make a conning point about privacy, that is, that people put a whole lot of information on MySpace and share a lot about themselves on YouTube without realizing the kind of people that have access to it.

Both can also turn into an addiction and keep you from homework, but then again so can certain forum communities.

Myspace:
Pros - Convenient networking, most people have it, good for band promotion
Cons - Error-prone, slow, ugly, full of morons

Youtube:
Pros - Quick and easy video hosting, way to get internet famous, easy to embed in forums and other sites
Cons - Video processing can occasionally take days, 10-minute video limit, full of morons, rampant trolling
