University Interview
2007-01-30, 4:41 PM #1
Well tomorrow at 1:30pm I have an interview to get into Strathclyde University for Product Design Engineering. [Mech engineering and a whole load of design work.] I'm starting to feel a bit worried, but hey, I've already got a conditional for my first choice [this is my second] and 3 unconditional offers. :D

Anywho, can I grab some of those fabled Massassi vibes?
nope.

Good luck! It can't go too wrong if you're the type of student who gets unconditionals!

Good luck. Good choice of major as well, ME is awesome.

I'll vibe for you.

I got lucky and got into my school without interviewing (they get too many applicants to interview every single one, I guess, and I wasn't close enough to a location where they had an interviewer)

VIBEMYBUM!

You'll breeze it - all my interviews for engineering were straightforward and all of the people I met responded to enthusiasm more than straight academia. Just be smiley and happy and you'll be laughing all the way to your first choice (I nearly applied to Strathclyde) :D

Yay conditional offer! :D

I need a B in anything to get in which should be a breeze, now it's just a case of deceiding whether or not to go to Glasgow or Strathclyde.

Martyn - Mech or Elec eng?
nope.

Martyn's a dirty (as in soil mechanics :P) civvie to my knowledge.

Ahhhhhhhhh, see I thought the basic 2 didn't sound right. :P

Almost applied for a course in that actually. And architecture. And Chemical Engineering. And music. and Pyrotechnics.

I'm indecisive. :P
nope.

i did Civvie, but now practice Structural :D

Fat Congrats, my Scottish compadre!

I personally would avoid electrical based on the job market, there are far more jobs in civil/structural and mechanical. Based on course material (I did a general first 2 years on my course and was friends with people from all streams) I would recommend mechical of your two choices there - you get a solid base in all things real, wheras electrical is quite 'airy fairy' in a way. That said, DC machines are ****ing cool.

I suppose to sum up, do what you like best. Oh, that said, if you hate complex numbers, stay away from electrical. They are the base of all things to do with AC. If (like me) you get on quite well with them, then you're rockin'.

:v:

It's weird... even with all the top-tier schools I applied to, I never once had to do an interview.

In any case, good luck!

I'm minoring in Mechatronics, so I get enough of a base in EE to work with control systems. I'm interested in electronics, but as was said it's extremely abstract, and I don't really have an interest in it beyond it's application.

A major plus working with EE is that it has made Vibrations a lot easier, considering they're using the exact same differential equations so far.

Hmm isn't mechatronics a combination of both?

The subject as a whole is. Since I'm an ME minoring in it, there's obviously more of an emphasis on the mechanical than the electrical.

I do Mathematical Engineering.

I'm cool. :(
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.
